Ok, so be patient with it - sometimes it will do this for a while but should settle down - the important thing is that you've got an alternative to a Hard Disk, so the system will carry on working (apart from the odd restarts). Mine did this a few times and then hasn't done it for 8 months now.

If you cloned the hard drive and copied it back, this could be one reason, but you can always reload the firmware on USB and reset the system, which will reload the firmware and overwrite the old installation and partitions for you. That may be a solution if you are getting frequent restarts. If doing this, you will need to reload your maps on again though.

Ok i did another firmware install.
A few weeks in now and still frequent resets unfortunately.
I didnt need to reinstall the maps though so perhaps i did something wrong?
After install do i need to reset to factory settings?

If you reset to factory settings it just sets everything back to defaults - so you will lose radio stations programming, the loudness and equaliser settings, phone pairing, recent journeys and phone calls etc and possible any jukebox files you may have created.

In my previous post, I wasn't very clear, but what I meant to say was that if you previously cloned the hard drive which already has some hard drive errors, you may have cloned any corrupt files errors over to the new SD card - especially if you did a raw or sector by sector copy.

In my guide, this project was originally intended as a backup or an alternative to continuing to use the Hard Drive - because if the Hard Drive fails at some point in the future, getting a compatible automotive grade replacement is almost impossible. My Hard Drive was perfect, and I wanted to preserve it. So I originally cloned it, but in the end just formatted the CF Card and reinstalled the operating system which created the new partitions from the firmware.

So you have nothing to loose at this stage by formatting the CF card with FAT32, put it back in the NG4 and boot with the USB on the firmware. Keep the engine running all the time. Leave the maps for a while and just use the unit as it for a few days, then if you are happy, reinstall your maps.

Just make sure you don't use a UDMA 7 CF card - stick to UDMA 6.

Hi folks,
After 6/7 months since my last post, I've to said that my Navidrive 3D (ng4) unit is dead (and it happened 6 months ago).
It's not an HD failure or not only.
It's something in the chipset or memory circuits and due to overwarming.
I beg you tell me if anyone has subtituted the ng4 by an Android unit (I've also look for smeg iv2 but I cannot find any unit, at least by a reasonable price).
I mean, remove the ng4 and the screen and install an Android unit in the screen hollow.

Thank you in avance!

Nothing's impossible Javier, but there won't really be anything here on that sort of thing, as we tend to deal with trying to fix and upgrade OEM kit here.

Most of these other aftermarket kits will require butchering the car to some degree, as some units are attached to their own screen, so need a different fascia or modification if you want a proper look.

Not sure I would want this...

I've never really seen any that look good - most tend to have a huge screen sticking out and it looks stupid, but this one looks better to me:

Yes, Marc.
I've seen on Internet some pretty good finished Android installations, not only those you show.
I know this is not the proper thread to talk about this, but I'm sure that most of us will be in the same situation...

Any info about the best Android unit to install in a C5 X7 (2012 model), where buy it and how to perform the installation, is welcome.

Thank you again and regards.

I think most of the one's I have seen are the 'Joying' units - but they do several different models. Probably from their website:

These are the units they say are for Citroen models:

Hi Marc,

I finally got around to formatting the CF and reinstalling the firmware.
Interestingly, once installed, my maps were still there, as well as previous routes. Seems very weird!!
I definitely formatted the CF fully, I did the full format not the quick one, and definitely as FAT32

Unless you only formatted one of the partitions (the one with the operating system on) leaving the other partitions intact (jukebox and mapping etc) which would explain it.

If you wanted to ensure a complete update, you would have to remove the partitions and then format the card. That would ensure nothing remained.

Hi, I finally got around to formatting the CF again (including deleting the partitions) as fat32
I re-installed the latest firmware. It gets to about 70% where the reset occurs, and then I get an error. I have tried 3 times now formatting the CF sticking it back in, installing the software and get the same error. It seems to work but does not store the date and time.
Any idea what is happening here?
Perhaps the error is because there are no maps installed?
I assume I will need to clone my HDD again to get things working ... :(

Hi

No - no need to clone your drive - not necessary - everything is done by the firmware.

Ok, your issue seems to be the partitions - they need removing! You should have nothing on the card - nothing - no partitions as these are all created automatically by the firmware.

Put the CF card into your PC and go to windows disk management. Select the CF card from the available drives listed on the left. You should see the partitions on the CF card displayed. Delete all the partitions, then create a single basic partition on the CF card.

Then format it and install it in the NG4, making sure it is NOT connected to the power (remove quadblock first and always reconnect it last).

Now put the USB in the USB port ensuring latest firmware files on it. Connect the power to the NG4, start the engine and wait for it to install the firmware and don't intrerrupt the process.

If you are getting an error still, then either the USB is corrupt or the firmware files are damaged, or CF card is faulty.

Thanks Marc.

I am using the firmware you gave me, and the CF was working fine before I decided to format it.
I did use disk mgmt and delete all partitions before formatting as fat32 (had to use this tool as Windows doesnt allow formatting CF's as fat32 anymore https://racelogic.support/01VBOX_Automo ... d_in_FAT32)

Argh this will be about my 10th time pulling the NG4 out and reinstalling the firmware. I am wishing I left it alone now :D
