Reading DS4 with diagbox.

Post by shedman »

just purchased a DS4 2.0 bluehdi dsport on a 2015 plate.
connected my actia interface revision c full chip and diagbox software, the issue is it will read almost all ecu’s the main one it will not read is engine ecu (not recognised) although it lists 8 fault codes which are 6 digit so assuming they are sporadic codes.
First thoughts was diagbox required updating, so installed updates from 7.02 in stages, checking in between for communication but just the same all the way to version 7.83.
the actia interface is full chip rev c A.1281z
This unit was working with no problems on my previous car peugeot 3008 2.0 hdi and the wife’s peugeot 207 1.6 hdi but these were older cars 2010 and 2007 respectively.
Could it be the interface that is the issue, or could somebody point me in the right direction as I have not come across this issue before.

Hi

No, you'll need to go higher with your Diagbox version.
Diagbox V7 was capped at V7.77. Version 8 carried on, There isn't a V7.83. It is actually 8.19 renamed to work with Diagbox 7. But you'll probably need to install Diagbox 8 now and go from there as the newer ECU software won't be available on earlier versions of Diagbox, especially the Engine ECU as they change the most. That's why it is only picking up some of the other ECUs for systems that haven't changed much and for which is can recognise.

Marc, need to pick your brain agin if that is ok, I got updated Diagbox v8.01 which was upgradable to 8.17 which upgraded my computer ok, I also got upgrade from different seller on ebay to take it up to 8.55 which I was led to believe is about 2019 vehicles, the last updates changed the version number to 7.855. the actia interface firmware was updated to v 4.35.
I run the version checker and the results are as follows,
Appli-xs-fuji-p106138a v4.35 @Actia 11.01.17
921815 c/ Inconnue
The issue is still there with regard to not reading the engine ecu, I have looked for any higher updates but nothing seems to be available so am assuming the software should be almost up to date.
Have you any ideas.
regards,
Stephen.

Hi Stephen

I can't really go into the DB Version 8 and later updates. The process is a bit fiddly from V8 on and can involve a lot of tweaking and configuring to get things working, so I can't really advise you on this sorry. I have what I need at 7.6* which is an early version 8 that works with DB V7 engine and meets my needs. To get later V8 updates you need V8 completely installed - but there may be issues depending on the updates you apply as some are 'unmodified' that can crash the programme.

Sorry I can't help you further on this, but it is a minefield that I prefer not to delve into unless I need to.

Have a Google of DB V8 and I'm sure you'll see an Olympic swimming pool of stuff on this subject - the issue will be sifting it all and a bit of experimenting. We have to remember that these are not official versions released to the public. Add to that there are a lot of ebayers and such that are selling these updates for profit when they are freely available out there.

Hello
The free software 7.57 / 7.62 from Scarymistake should actually work for vehicles until around the beginning of 2015.
The Chinese have not had a patch since 2015 (Houng is said to be dead).
The software from Maitresox to 7.82 (corresponds to 8.18) patched under the V07 extends until the beginning of 2016.
Further updates from 8.19 to 8.55 (7.819 - 7.855) from Simple are only APP updates (old LEXIA / PLANET) and do not help with newer vehicles (Diagbox = AW-Root).
This should actually be enough for your car - your China interface (VCI) is probably inferior.

The firmware was frozen by scarymistake / maitresox and no longer touched. If you flash the firmware with the programs offered, your VCI will probably be bound to the V07.xx forever - the VCI can then no longer be used for the V09.xx.

There are currently two alternatives to work with higher software / firmware for newer vehicles.
a) With the paid original software from PSA

b) As of version 9.68 MrRorry - MrRorry can be found in the forum https://www.tlemcen-electronic.com/forum/index.php.
As a guest, all contributions can be read there - registration is difficult - a forum founder has to agree.

DB 9.68 is the first entry under Diagnostics "Diagbox".
The sale is organized by the founder Amin-TE.
Everyone - not just members - can shop by email.
Cost: 50 € - PayPal for friends "contact@ecuserver.net"
There are YouTube films about the procedure.

Version 9.68 can be installed on a 32-bit or a 64-bit system - from WIN 7 to Win 10. The diagnostic software can only be used offline. Virtual machines don't work. Diagbox for newer vehicles up to 4/2020 - older ones with Lexia or Peugeot / Planet.
"Offline telcoding" works partially for vehicles after 2016/2017.

For the installation, VC ++ must be installed for both 64-bit and 32-bit (X86).
No defender (deinstallation) and no wirewall and no unsuitable virus scanner
PP2000 and Lexia are 16-bit apps.
Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 10 32-bit and 64-bit no longer support 16-bit.
Original Citroen diagnostic devices use Win7 32 bit
WIN 7x86 = 16bit app + 32bit app
WIN 7x64 = 32-bit app + 64-bit app
WIN10x86 = 32-bit app
W10x64 = 32 bit app + 64 bit app
In DB 9.68 MrRorry, Appli's 16-bit support for PP2000 and Lexia is virtualized.

Only those who have to diagnose a car that is no longer listed in 7.82 (8.18) have to deal with this topic.

MrRorry doesn't let the Chinese steal it.
Greetings Wolfgang

Marc and Wolfgang thanks for the reply’s, possibly the problem has just finally reared it’s head the Actia full chip has stopped reading the vin numbers automatically, manual input of vin is accepted by diagbox but no ecu is able to be read this is on both my car ds4 and the wife’s peugeot 207 so looks like the vci is toast.
I know there is a lot of crap sold on ebay etc but is there any recommendations as to where to purchase an new reliable full chip rev c/ box from.
best regards,
Stephen.

Many forum members have bought Diagboxes from Easydiagnostics. The forum doesn't specifically recommend them but Easydiagnostics have offered forum members a 15% discount if you follow the link from here viewtopic.php?t=60113

Update to reading ds4 2.0 bluehdi dsport 2015 engine ecu with lexia interface, purchased new interface from easydiagnostics which is now working correctly but found it would still not read engine ecu, I found testing by ecu for the engine selecting dcm62 ecu communication was established, the information in the ecu was that it had 2 software updates the latter being March 2018. I contacted Jim again regarding the diagbox 9.68 to which he installed on my computer and now it automatically detects dcm62 as engine ecu and has read 19 fault codes 16 are U codes communication fault with bsi U0118 87 can fault or multiplexed additive pump fault and P16D0 00 damage to the double damping flywheel, all faults are listed as intermittent. These codes will not delete although diagbox is saying they have been deleted but on rescan they are still there.there is or has been any eml on dash since the car was purchased.
Is there a reason why they will not delete.
regards,
Stephen.

Hi Stephen, yes, the reason the codes can't be cleared is because the underlying faults are still there. Diagbox can't cure the faults, only report on them. "U" codes are generally ECU or communication faults on the vehicle network.

Mark thanks for the reply, yes I know diagbox can’t fix the faults only report them but with the engine not running I would have thought all none active faults would have been deleted until the engine was restarted then they would be re-reported as a fault if still present.16 of the faults is code U1218 81 communication fault with built in system interface all codes have been generated at 0 vehicle speed engine ticking over does this look like can bus issue
if so best way of proceeding.

Many systems self-test with ignition on, they don't need the engine running necessarily. Most engine related faults only get tested when the engine is running as you'd expect with all the engine sensors doing their job and reporting in to the engine ECU.

As I said earlier, the errors you are reporting are mostly communication errors on the electrical networks - which only need the ignition switched on to self-test, therefore the errors are still there.
