Ok leaving Haltwhistle now and heading up the road. Just saw this attractive sign but too easy for a question: :-D
BFTW
BFTW
However it is worth a ponder while canoeing later, what exactly do they mean by "Centre" of Britain. In my fiendish engineering brain I would have thought that Britain is considerably deeper than it is high so the centre must surely be underground somewhere? No? :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Pennine Cycleway Quiz Question Day 6 Number 5
What is this structure called? (grade easy)
Which Firm Supply the teas and Coffees? (grade easy for me but I know!)
Well now, as you say the building is easy. It is called
Spoiler: show
The Old Water Tower

As for the tea supplier not quite so easy. From Neil's description I am assuming the two companies to be
Spoiler: show
Ringtons and Mrs Pumphreys
however I can only find the logo of the first of those which is nothing like the sandwich board so I must conclude it is the second supplier's name on the card
Spoiler: show
Having said that the sandwich board picture could be that of a cook type older woman which would fit with the name!

..and the start point for the Bracing Walk is here

https://www.google.com/maps/@55.0023334 ... 312!8i6656

Along up the top of the crags overlooking the Lough and back. One of the best things to do. Look around and it gives you the impression of what life may have been like stationed up here. Splendid isolation.
So the walk takes you past a particular living landmark and an easy research or top of your head answer.

Pennine Cycleway Quiz Question Day 6 Number 6
Which film made this Hadrians Wall living landmark famous :?:

Ringtons deliver in my street every Friday - they were next door for ages yesterday, don't usually deliver there, only further along.
My mother used them for years and bought tons of promotional stuff from them - willow pattern china mostly. Probably paid through the nose for it.

Years since I was in the Grainger market but did used to buy coffee from Pumphrey's.

And onto Vindolanda, couple of miles away

This is what I had come to see
"The Vindolanda Tablets" http://vindolanda.csad.ox.ac.uk/tablets/index.shtml
The Vindolanda writing tablets, written in ink on post-card sized sheets of wood, have been excavated at the fort of Vindolanda, immediately south of Hadrian’s Wall in northern England. Dating to the the late first and early second centuries AD, the formative period of Roman Britain’s northern frontier, they were written by and for soldiers, merchants, women and slaves. Through their contents, life in one community on the edge of the Roman world can be reconstructed in detail.
Lets not make the question too difficult....the answer is in the information on the link above, and plenty other information on the Vindolanda Tablets if that is of interest.

Pennine Cycleway Quiz Question Day 6 Number 7
In Vindolanda Tablet 291 Who did Claudia Severa wife of Aelius Brocchus invite to her Birthday? :?:

Answer a simple search here http://vindolanda.csad.ox.ac.uk/4DLink2 ... questQuery

Ringtons Maling Ware quite collectable now Steve.

Does any other part of the Country still have doorstep deliveries of Tea and Coffee a la Ringtons :?:
Chip in if you have any info.

I would think that a "Hadrians Wall film location" search would come up with it Mick. I will assist if it doesnt.

Now judging by Steve's reaction this morning to a track I posted on the jukebox last night he isn't going to like the answer to this one, surely the greatest hoody of them all? :-D
Spoiler: show
Robin Hood Prince of Thieves made in 1991 with Kevin Costner in the lead role, and I have to say I preferred Richard Greene!!

Don't want a cup of Nescafe Original then? :-D

Yes we had a brainwave involving our third, as yet unused bike. We took it with us in the canoe and then used it for portering the rapids. Worked ok. As ever our friendly farmer was passing and he took the rest of the gear to the end of the run for us.... did you get the sausages or havn't we got there yet, I can't remember!! #-o
