Thanks for that. But the doors had been opened as I'd just cleaned the car interior. It doesn't deserve a clean though, at present, because of the hassle it's giving me. Something IS wrong with the electronics. It just HAS to be. And it's connected to the removal and replacement of fuses. It's driving me insane. And the neighbours! Thanks for your input

There is something I might suggest you try, but it WILL take time and care to do it right. Start doing a BSi reset procedure until you have completely disconnected the battery and cleared down the systems. Before re-connecting the battery take out each fuse in turn, one at a time (making CERTAIN you know where each fuse came out of), clean the blades of the fuse (use contact clean and plug/unplug the fuse a few times, which should also help clean the fuse holder contacts) and then, once all of the fuses have been cleaned and refitted, continue with the BSi reset. If it is just down to dirty contacts, doing this at the 'fully powered down' stage of the BSi reset should not cause the ECUs any confusion.

Thank you for that suggestion. I'll do that in daylight tomorrow and report back. It is possible that when I pulled and returned the fuses, that some contaminant may have been pushed in. This forum is great. Nice to know there are people willing to help out there!

The primary reason for the existence of this forum is to provide help to those French car owners who find themselves in 'distress' and need to get their vehicles back and running. Everything else is purely incidental (although it can be fun, off-beat and (occasionally) argumentative).

:rofl2: Sorry!! My fault :dunce: , I'll consider myself in the corner for the next hour!
Meanwhile back on topic I was curious to hear about the high pitched alarm sound Mark mentioned as opposed to the horn. My C5 has never sounded at all so I don't know what to expect if it does?

The alarm has a separate siren isolated from the other systems Mick.
X7 Siren.PNG
The siren carries out diagnostics on its connection with the alarm unit and on its permanent supply.
If the siren detects a malfunction, the siren is triggered.

It depends on your options as to what you have fitted of course.

Thanks Marc, at least it won't concern me now if I do trigger it by accident! :)

Mark, while checking your fuses in daylight, and with the battery disconnected, it is also worth checking the security of the battery terminals and the other end of the -ve battery lead where it connects to the main earthing point. Just a thought. :)

See Marc's post above, odds on the shunt fuse is in the wrong position...

Hi. I haven't been able to do the fuses today, except I can tell you the shunt is in the correct position. ( When I extracted them initially, I did them one by one. One out, looked at, back in to the vacant position . I could not get the positions wrong) What I have noticed today is that first turn off the ignition, a warning shows up on the speedo, that shows literally for not even half a second, not giving me time to read it. But what I do see , to accompany the words ,are a KEY symbol and an EXCLAMATION mark next to it. I'll have to video it, and then pause on the replay to see what the words are. But I can't find online what the key and exclamation mark mean. But maybe someone out there knows, and can solve this problem? I'm guessing it points to a compromise or breakdown of my alarm system.

That is the Transponder or Remote Control Warning: It represents the remote control battery is flat or or transponder not recognised faults. I would expect this with the problems you have mentioned. I assume you also checked the fob batteries?

Yes. And used both fobs. Hopefully if it's not thrashing down tomorrow, I'll do the bsi till the battery's disconnected and things are asleep,do the fuses checks, clean their sockets, complete the bsi, and hope for the best. Ps. When the radio resets to 2:04pm, Jan 2000 every time, the cd player remembers what track it was on and the radio stations are still there too. Absolutely everything in the car works, it starts first time... It's faultless apart from the lock it, leave it, come running to it with the blade to turn the alarm off thing. And with either fob, I can lock it/unlock it a million times till I stop, leave it locked for 4 minutes, then it's screaming alarm time. Can't turn the lights on with the fob, either, after the car's been locked on the blade for 4 minutes. Can do before 4 minutes are up.
I can do everythingg before leaving it locked for 4 minutes. Then it's a nightmare.
