C4GP radio wiring

Post by tomaskriv »

Hello all,

I've decided to install a subwoofer from previous car into current 2014 Grand Picasso. What I need is to identify front door speaker wires. Then I will be able to tap in existing audio output. Googled for many hours, and stuck at the yellow plug in the fusebox inside the glove box. Few websites show how people able to locate front door speaker wires there. The problem is that all pictures show that yellow connection with different cable colours and more wires than in my car.
Is there website where I can find 2014 C4GP wiring diagram? Or maybe you guys know more about how to locate speaker wires.

Thank you all.

You will have several problems.

Is this the original Audio Unit you are using and if so what is the VIN so we can identify the wiring diagram?
The speaker wires end up in the quadlock at the back of the head unit, so what are you looking for in the glovebox apart from fuses?

Thank you for quick reply.
I've found 2-3 websites where Citroen owners did found speaker wires from original radio connecting to front door harness.

This is what I want to replicate:
https://www.cactusforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=3017

Or maybe I should ask: where to find speaker wires easy enough without taking apart dash.

Thank you.

Can't help you without a VIN. Electrical diagrams are vehicle specific.

Ok, you have a lot of kit there, so took a while to get the correct options.

Here's the diagram for your Picasso with SMEG Digital Receiver.

8440: front LH tweeter speaker
8444: front LH woofer speaker
8430: rear left loudspeaker
8435: right hand rear speaker
8449: front RH woofer speaker
8445: front right tweeter

So now you can trace these back to the SMEG unit (8480) 8 pin black connector (be aware there are several 8 pin black connectors), but you have the pin-outs to see which are the correct ones now.

Please correct me if I an wrong: there are no connector in the fuse box that joins wires from SMEG to the door harness?
I wonder how I will be able to identify the wires now. Sorry, this first time for me to trying to solve puzzle like this.

You don’t have an equaliser amplifier fitted like the chap on your video link for a start, so maybe you are getting the optional amp mixed up with a fuse Box?

The speaker wires go back to the SMEG digital unit and that gets its power from the BSI which itself is powered via the engine fuse box.

Subwoofers were not fitted outside of the equaliser amplifier optional extra sound system, which is a multiplexed amp.

So you are working with a standard internally amplified system via the SMEG unit, hence why the wires are going to the head unit.

You won’t have a connection for a subwoofer on the standard setup, which is why I’m a bit confused as to what you are trying to do. Don’t follow that guide, he already has the amplifier upgrade system and is deciding to upgrade his original subwoofer that you won’t have.

My original idea was:
1. find speaker wires.
2.connect to speaker wires lLine Level Converter ( http://shop.vibeaudio.co.uk/index.php?r ... uct_id=345 )
3.use RCA from converter to transfer audio to subwoofer.

this is what guy did inside his Citroen Cactus in my link.

I've found same process done in russian Citroen forum on C4.

Right, I understand a little more what you want to do now.

I know that the factory fitted Equaliser Amplifier had different wiring and updated speakers. Retro fitting your own amp is going to be messy as you’ll have to hack into the wires. Some people have updated the wiring too.

So finding somewhere to fit the amp up front, locate speaker wires, run another set of wires for a subwoofer rear to front and connect the lot into the line converter and wire in your amp to the fuse box,

That will have to be a labour of love I think..... 🧨

Maybe you have radio removal manual? Iknow it sits behind 7' lcd screen. It would be great to know how to remove it without breaking hidden screws.

It's done in several stages - you'll need to remove the central vent then the display...

First, you must disconnect the battery - if you do not you can brick your Audio / display when disconnecting / reconnecting power!

Use this procedure and again when reconnecting later on:

BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure

Removing Central Vent
Amp A.PNG
Amp B.PNG
Unclip the central air vent (1) (at "a") using trim removal tools.
Detach the central air vent (1).
Disconnect the connector (at "b").
Remove the central air vent (1).
Dismantling the Touch Screen
Amp C.PNG
Amp D.PNG
Unclip the trim (1) (at "a") using trim removal tools.
Remove the trim (1).
Remove the bolts (2).
Amp E.PNG
Amp F.PNG
N.B.:Unlock the steering column, pull fully and lower it.
Remove the bolts (3).
Unclip the touch control panel (4) (at "b") using trim tools.
Detach the touch control panel (4).
Disconnect the connectors (at "c").
Remove the touch control panel (4).
Amp G.PNG
Remove:
  • The bolts (6)
  • The transponder (7)
Unclip the START/STOP button (5) (at "b") using trim tools.
Remove the START/STOP button (5).
Removing Radio Unit
Amp H.PNG
Amp I.PNG
Remove the bolts (2).
Remove the radio (1) from its location.
Disconnect the connectors ( as "a") (According to equipment).
Remove the audio system 1.

Refit in reverse order and ensure you follow the section to reconnect the battery in the link above.
