C4 GP egs gearbox - clutch slip

Post by zundapp »

2012 C4 Grand Picasso diesel with egs gearbox, 55,000 miles.

Recently, I've found the car will accelerate normally in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears, but the clutch seems to slip when it selects 4th and 5th and to a lesser extent 6th gear. This can be interesting when trying to move into the space between two artics when joining a dual carriageway!

Apart from this clutch slip, the car drives nicely, no juddering or unpleasant noises from the gearbox or clutch. Is it worth getting the system re-calibrated by Mr Citroen, or is it simply new clutch time.... I know this will be costly! :(

Errr.... likely a new clutch and dual mass flywheel - always best to replace the DMF at the same time given the labour, as generally a DMF will not last the life of a new clutch. The system should auto adjust and the calibration is usually only needed after replacing the clutch to reinitialise the system.

Thanks Marc, That's really what I thought - just hoping there might have been another less expensive option. I have a choice of two Citroen dealers locally - I'll explore their pricing...

Ok, be prepared to melt down a few ingots though.... I'd expect something in the region of £1000-£1500 for the clutch, DMF, labour and reinitialising of the system.

The new Clutch kit and DMF from Citroen parts is about £825 inc. VAT - so the rest on labour and configuration time / road testing (and VAT on labour) should give you an idea.

I checked the local Citroen dealerships - their estimated repair costs were, as expected, eye-watering! So, I looked around and found that the closest independent Citroen/Peugeot specialist to me is in Glasgow. I went there and took a look, it's very tidy workshop, and the owner Bruno seemed very knowledgeable.

To cut a long story short, he replaced the clutch, DMF and slave cylinder with thrust bearing in eight hours for £1149. He showed me the old parts and they were indeed knackered. While the overall cost is still a lot of money, it's a lot less than Mr Citroen's estimate.

So, for anyone requiring the services of an independent Citroen specialist in this area, I'm very happy to recommend Bruno (the owner), Tuga Garage, Leyden Gardens, Maryhill, Glasgow, G20 9TP. I'm a happy customer!
