If engine code is dw10uted4 then it's the same engine. I dug out the old receipt today.
I too think the filings in the fuel are a cause for concern. The pump drive of engine I worked on was quite tight on the camshaft, it was only a slight bluing from slipping/heating that suggested the pump drive was loose. I really hope you get a solution.

Thankyou.
Latest update is that this seems to have been ruled out, now looking back over fuel lines as they realised there is air in there. I thought that had been ruled out.
Will keep you informed.

Hello
Just an update. After 6 long months it seems that finally the garage has sorted the van out and it is running fine. I think everything from the fuel lines, fuel pump, injectors, goodness knows what else was changed and eventually they roped in some specialist advice and eventually an electrical fault was identified. There was also a problem with the ECU, which had to be reprogrammed
Apparently this electrical fault is common in 2009 despatch vans.
Thankyou very much for the advice received, particularly 1080 who went to a lot of trouble trying to help.
Fingers crossed now. Hope I dont get back to you on this problem! 🙂

Citroen Despatch black smoke

Post by Philip1927 »

Some of you may recall the trials and tribulations my son in law has had with this van. At least it seems to be running well, apart from the black smoke when accelerating. Fuel consumption dropped 10mpg so clearly it is now over fuelling.
Can I have your expert advice on likely cause?
2009 2l diesel.

This likely means that either too much fuel is being added to the mixture or that there's not enough oxygen being supplied to burn the fuel. Some possibilities are a faulty fuel pump, a blocked air filter (or hose), clogged EGR (but that would throw up an EGR fault code as it self-tests) or even faulty injectors - but this type of issue should throw a fault code up which would aid in diagnosis.

Think the fuel pump is ok, injectors have been changed, but a blocked filter or hose a possibility. Getting EGR checked out next week when garage reopens after a fortnight holiday. OK for some!
