Citroen C5 2.2 HDI 2007 Mk 2 Biturbo

Post by howardaskew »

I have bought a C5 2.2 HDI 2007 Mk2 Biturbo Manual. VTX plus Car has covered 103,000 miles

The Engine Management light was on and anti pollution fault Lexia showed various EGR faults including short circuit and high voltage.
I am an Electrician who specialises in controls (Former Motorcycle Technician Early Eighties) and I thought it would be the EGR valve fault. Motor shorting rather than wiring?

I took my time as the Haynes Manual does not cover this engine model and replaced the EGR valve. Still the same fault. :(

So it looks like the wiring could have a fault.

I will add some Lexia screenshots.
This is the air live data
IMG_9085.JPG
It also comes up with speed control fault.

One of the faults listed is EGR throttle fault. Not to be confused with EGR valve. I assume this is at the throttle port?

I found a section on Lexia that activates replacement EGR valves but this just raised false hopes.

Here is the persistent Lexia fault screenshot

Here is the Electric EGR valve repeat signal fault.

Fault details P2111 permanent fault

Fault details P0406 Permanent Fault

Does anyone know where the Injection ECU is? There appears to be an ECU next to the BSI unit but it does not look like this.
IMG_9037.JPG
The one I have found next to the BSI has the same EDC16CP39 part no as on the screenshots.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram?

I may have to buy this French manual that covers this model.

I would appreciate any help.

When removing and replacing the EGR valve I have lost one of the allen screw bolts that secures the EGR pipe to the EGR valve. It looks very tricky to replace right at the back of the engine. It does not stop the car running as I did the single remaining bolt up very tight and I don't think my EGR valve opens.

I did read on an Aussie Frogs thread dated 2014 that someone had the same faults on the anti pollution and speed control faults. But that thread went nowhere.

I would appreciate any help and now I have learnt how to place photos into the post I will update this thread.

This is a very willing engine and the car is worthy of saving.

I missed this post originally, but if you can confirm your VIN and confirm what fault codes you are getting I will take a look for you.

The original poster has a MK II, but although the same engine, it was modified for the MK III (X7) so may have a different engine ECU and other subtle differences to the older version.

Also, the OP is getting a little confused with the BSI - which is in the cabin not the engine bay, so he probably means the engine fusebox (BSM) when he talks about the engine ECU location.

Here's the injection ECU. 1324 is the metering pump proportional electrovalve.

You can find the other codes here on our Wiki:

The problem was that I replaced the egr valve , afther that the car started runing badly , I had double checked everything , afther I had deleted the errors p2111 reapears... P2111 is an error from the throttle body so , I've replaced it with one from a car that works , but ...no results

Did you reinitialise the auto adaptives? That needs doing after EGR valve replacement. It should be guided using Diagbox under one of the repair menus.

Update.
After over 3 years with this car blocking my drive I was on the point of scrapping it for £311 when I read a post on a Citroen forum that the EML does not affect the issue of the MOT for pre 2008 Diesels (UK).
I checked and they were correct. :)
The car brakes seized a little on the drive but once freed up the car duly passed the MOT. The emissions were 0.02. I only drove 2 miles before the test and a blast removed the soot from the oil that built up in the turbo/inlet hose. The MOT tester refused to test the car without a new Cambelt so I took it home and fitted a new cambelt and water pump etc and now the car is a driver! Still has an EMl but use ELM 327 and a phone App to clear it.
I have changed the ECU and BSI and the car added 50,000 miles without going anywhere!
Apologies for not posting sooner but the car has only been back on the road for 4 or 5 weeks.
It drives very well and goes like a rocket. It is a lighter car than the later X7 model.
Now I have the MOT I may be able to travel and see someone who may be able to find the fault.
