1.6 Hdi 16v timing belt kit

I thought I would replace the timing belt/pulleys and pump. As one does I simply selected a Gates Power Grip kit. But I have had to send back a number of kits because they appear fake.

This is sample of the label that Gates say should be stuck on the box.

And this is the label of the my latest return. No product code and the QR code is not recognised.

All in all, I am now not sure that Gates is the right way to go- lots of talk on the net about inferior Chinese bits in the box.

You may think I'm a bit paranoiac about this, but a cam belt change is not so easy as it used to be for us old gezzers. And the 1.6 Hdi could really do without any more weak links being installed!
Any thoughts would be valued.

Yes - get a proper genuine kit from the dealer - don't take chances with the timing!

If this is for your 1.6 VIN ending 625....

Belt only: part - 0816G7, £115.74 inc. VAT
Belt and Tensioner Roller Kit: Part 0831V4, £145.73 inc. VAT
Belt, Roller kit, water pump, gasket etc.: Part 1609525680, £148.97 inc. VAT

I paid about £158 inc. for my full kit from Citroen and that was a genuine gates belt supplied in the kit with genuine Citroen parts.

Unfortunately fakes are abound these days, so don't take chances with the timing.

Around £112 all up. Genuine Citroen in a sealed box. A very helpful Citroen agent- well recommended.
