I will recheck the injector tomorrow.
Do I have to remove the front bumper to get to the ESP ECU?
Thanks Again

The ESP ECU is accessed via the front left wheel - which needs to be removed, along with left wheel splash guard. Hopefully you won't need to remove the under engine protection panel.

I have checked all connections on the ESP ECU and all look as good as the day it left the factory.
After further research online I think that my problem lies with injector 4.
I have spoken to a mechanic and he tells me this is a common problem and will cause the ESP light to come on with the EML.
The car is only running on 3 cylinders and so I think my first option is to have the injector changed.

Ok, at least you ruled out the wiring which didn't cost anything to check (apart from a bit of cursing perhaps :-D ),

Don't forget you have Diagbox, so why don't you look at the live data? Run a Global Test, go into the injection ECU, look for the parameters option - standard or custom parameters - and see what's happening with the injectors.

The injector is toast - the early ones on DV6C engines are notorious for it.

Hi,
Are the newer injectors better?
Looking at the fault record on Lexia (before I reset everything) there have been faults logged on the other 3 injecters over the last 50,000Km.
So I think I might have to have the complete set replaced. Expensive but hopefully a one time fix.

There was a revised part number, and later cars do seem to be better, suggests they sorted it out. Reportedly best to use OE injectors or they can be difficult to program.

I had come to the conclusion that injector 4 has failed and that has caused the engine torque fault which has caused the ESp light to come on.

I was concerned about the other injector faults but on consulting the EODB chart see that they are only balance faults and probably not too important.

I had resigned myself to having to replace all 4 injectors at about 200 Euros each (eBay price) but now think I may get away with one.

I am going on holiday next week so will probably leave it until I return.

How easy a job is it to replace the injectors?

Thanks

Does the new injector need coding and can I do it myself with Lexia?

Yes, your car has the Continental Injection ECU and uses Continental-Siemens Piezoelectric type injectors. They are coded using Diagbox. As to doing them yourself - it all depends on whether you have the tightening tools, plugs and how you are about working on the high pressure fuel system.

Apart from the engine cover, the injection shielding, air ducting, inlet air pipes and the EGR module have to be removed. They recommend an injector well-cleaning tool and sealing washer extractor tools and plug kit for the job.

Brilliant information. I am almost certain that the problem is injector 4. I am going on holiday tomorrow so will leave it until we get back.
I am going to change the injector and see where we go from there.

I will update when I have done it.

Thanks all

OK, I am back off holiday now and ready to start work on it.
Can anybody tell me a part number for the injector?
I understand from "Give me a break" that it is a Continental-Seimens Peizoelectric type injector.
I also understand that there is a revised part number for this.
If I fit exactly the same injector will it need coding with Lexia, if so has anybody got a guide on how to do it please?

Thanks all

Here's the diagram
injectors.JPG
You can see the part number was revised. I presume NE is new, and ES is refurbed (although both carry an exchange surcharge). Recommended to replace the fork and bolt at the same time, as otherwise they sometimes break a bit later. Prices....
injector prices.JPG
You may well be able to get a genuine one cheaper from a diesel specialist. You will need to program - although the are the same part no, they have different characteristics which the ECU needs to know about. Oh, and you should probably replace the copperwasher at the bottom (which the injector appears to come with) and re-cut the seat while you are there....

Edit: here's one at about half the price!! https://www.pfjones.co.uk/citroen-ds3-1 ... 13556.html

Hi All,

Sorry for the delay. I found that I could get an injector for a Ford Focus (same part number) for £156 on eBay. Before buying it I thought I would let a friends mechanic have a look.
He found that the connector on the top of the injector was broken and giving a loose connection. 2 cable ties later all is fixed and the car is running great again.
Good job I never brought the injector.

Thank you everybody for your input and advice.

Mick
