Knock on front suspension Dispatch 1.6

Re: Knock on front suspension Dispatch 1.6
Not e mounts , this thread started in September and during the winter there was no knock on engine start up. Have already checked them its definitely suspension related. So can only be wishbone bushes or arb bushes, both are expensive. 100 quid a side for wb from europarts and 70 for the arb kit. At least the removal of both doesn't look 2 hard, 3 bolys for the wb and 4 for arb. How much for genuine Citroen parts. Marc?

Re: Knock on front suspension Dispatch 1.6
Update: had the van on the shaker plates yesterday, the only thing that showed up was a negligible amount of movement in the ns ball joint. The mechanic said it wouldn't be a test failure, but would be enough to make a noise. He said to replace one side and see if the noise stops, if it does then to replace the other side. If it doesn't then he said shocks, as they are gas filled not oil filled, so a leak would not show.

If that joint has a pinch bolt it could be loose or alternatively and more likely, it could be worn which causes a knock with up and down travel. The shank becomes narrowed and needs replacing. Some bolts are fully threaded, some half but either way, they become slack in the joint recess over time. I would check them.

Ok thanks for that . Strangely enough my last van had a new wishbone fitted and that had a similar thing, turned out to be worn bolt.

The bolt is shown as number 9 Rich on the diagram below: Part 362264 for the bolt and 362233 for the nut (item 10)
£2.74 & £2.95 inc. VAT Respectively.
Here's a brief video explaining the bolt positioning generally:

That is the bolt, it is threaded halfway but don't be surprised if you are offered one threaded all the way. I prefer the half way of the two.
Re: Knock on front suspension Dispatch 1.6
Evening all, been absent for a while, an update on this.
I had the van to the garage over the road from me, as I'm acquainted with the owner, and their MOT lift has the "shaker plates", which test for wear on suspension joints.
The test on mine showed up a tiny bit of free play on nearside ball joint, the tester told me it was enough to make a noise, but not enough to fail the test, and suggested putting a new arm on that side only, and taking from there. If the noise disappeared, then that was the cause, if it reduced, tenth other side would likely need replacing too. I left it for a month or two to allow the play to develop more, then put it into my garage last week to get the job done.
Success, the noise disappeared, although there is still a very slight clonk occasionally, so the other side will obviously need doing soon.
Then its new discs and pads, which I will do myself in the summer hols, and the cam belt and water pump kit, which will get done later in the year, when finances allow.
