I can only explain what should happen when changing rear pads:
Parking brake is released and diagnostic tool used to put the EPB into 'Removal Position'
Battery disconnected (risk of EPB re-engaging)
Carry out work
Reconnect Battery procedure
Use diagnostic to reconnect EPB, or long pull up on parking brake switch to initialise. Calibration may need to be done afterwards.

There are a multitude of faults that can occur after incorrect operation or otherwise - and the codes I have basically repeat what Lexia is saying in your screenshots.

You must make sure the EPB is not applying itself once the battery is connected back up - hence the need to put the ignition on, foot on brake and then hold down EPB button for 5-10 seconds, then switch off. Then you can try the emergency release. If you are saying it won't release then I'm not sure what has happened.

Remember the ESP controls all functions of the EPB. When there is a fault with the system it will disable all the auto functions - so I would expect it to be reporting the status as shown, plus the car isn't running so half those functions won't be active anyway.

U1219 - which really only tells us what we know in that the data isn't what is expected - that the EPB is not happy as the cables are not set properly.

I fear you might have had an expensive day, Steve....

https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... =3&t=53941 is similar to yours in that cable pulled in during brake change

https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... =3&t=60013 is about someone trying to get replacement cables

Can't see you've got any choice but to get the unit off, and open it up and see what is going on inside....

That's what I think has happened in that the unattached cable has now wound back in and beyond when battery was reconnected when the EPB was reapplied. You can see the internals of the unit in my post that Richard linked to.

Re: X7 Electric handbrake

I have the procedures that I can put up (it will take 40 mins or so) - however, I'm not sure what sort of luck others have had as Citroen say:
  • CAUTION: The parking brake cables and the unlock cable cannot be separated from the electrically controlled parking brake unit (FSE).
  • CAUTION: Prohibition on opening the electric parking brake system in after sales. If a malfunctioning of the electric parking brake system is diagnosed, it is necessary to replace it.
So there are no 'repair manuals' for this system apart from the internal workings I have posted. Let me know if you want these - but I fear it will be very much virgin territory once you get in there.

The whole unit with cables is £977.84 inc. VAT, Part No: 1612865480 Steve - unless you can secure a second hand one or are feeling adventurous!

That Citroen advice may just be to the workshop techs - in that they do not provide a repair procedure - so replace unit type of mentality - that's not to say others have not tried a repair though as I'm sure some have.

Also, this video is for a 508 using Diagbox - and this shows the menus to put the EPGB into removal mode at time index 0:39. You can go back and pause it to see the menu steps from the Global Test - and from there into the EPB. You can also see the calibration menu etc.

What a nightmare Steve. Hope you can fix without having to replace it.
If the only option is replacement then you can't make it any worse by opening it up for a look.
Fingers crossed.
