depollution signal

Post by exasperated »

Hello All.
My 2008 C5 3l. auto's 'pollution signal light' came on whilst traveling on a fairly long run, and simultaneously lost power sounding as though it was running on a few cylinders. The next morning it started o.k. and ran smoothly. I took it to the local auto-electrician for a diagnostic check. This showed that it had a number of faults, and that only no3 cylinder was o.k. All these faults were cleared and since then all is well. The technician was of the opinion that there is an air leak in the induction side.
Has anyone got an opinion on this matter. I will appreciate any feed-back.
Kind Regards,
Dennis Nielsen.

What is the mileage and have you had the DPF additive topped up yet?

DPF gives a different message, antipollution fault is usually on the intake / fuel side. Without the actual codes it's anyone's guess, could be as simple as a weak battery.

Not necessarily, the additive level being low, yes, but a depollution fault can relate to the emissions system components too.

Hello All,
thanks for the replies. Car has only done 54000km.
I bought it 2nd hand at 25000Km in 2010 but has been troublesome.
"givemeabreak" refers to DPF additive . What is that?
Regards,
Dennis Nielsen.

Do you have the VIN of the vehicle handy, I've assumed it is a 3.0 HDi in which case the additive I'm referring to would be the diesel fuel additive used to lower the combustion temperature of particles, to aid with regeneration, but of course you could have a petrol version in which case that is irrelevant :-D - in any case the VIN will help (and it will only be visible to Forum staff)

Hello All,
Vin VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].
Engine 10FJ3Y0185936.
I am in a quandary, as to whether it would be in my best interest to sell the car. It is a very relaxing car to drive, comfortable, powerful and quiet, but on the downside is the complexity and unreliability of its electronics. Added to this is the dearth of Citroen Agents, [incidentally Citroen is no longer sold in S. Africa] and thus a serious lack of experienced technicians. I am not particularly concerned about mechanical and hydraulic matters as I have a fair amount of experience with DS models of the 60's and 70's
I at one time bought a Lexia , but even with the aid local experts could not get it to work. The latest on this saga is that the program and computer have been stolen by another so called expert, which raises the question in which field was his expertise. What is the chance of buying, in the U.K., a functioned 2nd hand computer loaded with the Lexia program? This may be a solution to the possibility of future electronic problems.
Your comments will be much appreciated.
Regards,
Dennis Nielsen.

Hi Dennis

From the VIN we now know you have a MK II (not an X7 as I had assumed from the year) so was a late 2007 model.

C5 II 5 DOOR SALOON 3.0i V6 24V 211 (ES9A) 6-SPEED AUTOMATIC GEARBOX

So ignore all that about DPFs and additive as your petrol version doesn't have any of that. My next suggestion would of been to list the specific fault codes here with your Lexia, so we could delve a little deeper - however from what you'e just said it seems somebody has made off with your Lexia!

Clone Lexias are sold frequently around the globe, we have a UK supplier here recommended by members who can supply the CI hardware and software, but can also provide a configured and installed laptop if required. Link here for discount and further details:

In the interim, do you happen to recall the specific fault codes that your previous mechanic mentioned?

Hello,
Unfortunately I did not record the fault codes.
Thanks for the details regarding Lexia availability at a discount from Easydiagnostics. I will follow it up with them.

Re: VIN masking feature
I understand why we have this but could it be changed to only mask the last 8 digits as this is the only bit that uniquely identifies the vehicle.
If only admin can see the first part of the VIN all it does is delay responses from others that are not admin, the first part of the VIN could have been used to identify the model, engine & gearbox.

I don’t believe so, as the filtering looks for the specific VIN prefixes used. Without this it would affect any numbers in a post.

If the script looks for a pattern then could it not also paste a certain number of the characters back? I'm not saying it's easy, just that it could be done. Surely it already happens to a certain extent because we can see V F 7 before all the asterisks?

No, it’s not a script Paul, it’s a form of word replacement and a feature of the Forum software. Options are limited I’m afraid, but it saves a lot of work in manually masking posts, and reduces the possibility of them being missed.

Ah, it's part of the banned words feature then.
