If it's number 5 in the diagram, then that ebay one won't fit - it's not the same part number and looks different.

There are 2 part numbers -

476907 - Left (available from Citroen @ £16.55 inc. VAT)
476916 - Right (No Longer Available)

These have a left one in stock, but a ridiculously stupid website as they have forgone a database lookup and tried to list over 25,000 parts on a web page and wonder why it takes ages to do anything

They are looking £21 for it. I'll try to bodge it somehow. A lot of money for a bracket is it not!?!

Back to the original post of this thread. Is this area considered structural, given that it is in a region near to the STM?
If you expand the view you can just about see that the rubber bung at the rear is sitting at an angle - this is because the corrosion has totally eaten away the metal at this area.

(I know i Posted this in March, but only getting around to it now as the MOT is upcoming.)

If that's the inside of the suspension turret, then pretty sure that would be a fail as within 30cm of a mounting point. Looks like a bit of fun to repair - possible it can be plated from the outside, but is that the ABS wire running through it?

Yes, STM is to the up and to the left of the photo - not in shot.
Also, it is the ABS, I think. Looks like the inner splash guard has failed or been penetrated over time and the water/salt has gotten through. :(

I looked at it thinking a buff back to bare metal, some treatment and then stonechip would cure it, but now not too sure. Too much money gone into it to let it fail now with the new suspension and set of tyres.

What roughly should I expect a garage to charge for correcting this? I suspect it would be pretty straightforward for a bodyshop as they would have good access from the wheel arch.

Well, it failed for the opposite side and also for the rear jack mounts. Looks like the rubber bungs in front of the rear wheel had corroded and allowed water to penetrate inside the sill.
Fixed now.

Oh and as for the vibration. It is still there. Believe that it is the tensioner pulley that is causing it. Changing the CV joint made no difference.

Well, it looks like the vibration is due to the brake caliper as I queried last March!
Disc is not warped, pads are wearing evenly, but the piston in the caliper is very stiff and took a lot of pressure from a G clamp to get it to return. However, after prolonged driving there is not heat build up, which mislead me and the mechanic. I've not noticed the vibration as much recently - it seems to have now morphed into a pulsing during braking which led us to take another look at the brake setup. Car brakes in a straight line and there is no pull to any side under braking.

So fitting the CV joint might seem like a waste of time and money, but it would have been needed for MOT as the boot was perished. No big deal.

As an aside, is the front ARB on all Xsaras 19mm diameter?

dave_xsara wrote: 30 Mar 2018, 20:45 I've not been on a loong enough journey to obtain the noise and record it.
However, searching YouTube has brought me to the below video.

Listen to it from 7:30 into the video and you will hear exactly the same noise as my car is producing. This guy diagnoised the problem as a seized caliper.
However, I've realised that the CV boot has a split so maybe it is causing the issue. This might also explain the vibrating in the cabin of the dash and the sun visors.
I'll record my own video anyway and write up the conclusion.

Since this, I've replaced the following (only bottom pulley was replaced in expectation of resolving the problem):
  • Offside front caliper
  • Offside front disc & pads
  • Bottom pulley
  • Offside half shaft
  • Pulley Tensioner and belt
The offside front shock, spring & STM were replaced recently prior to the noise starting.

I can't think what else it could be. Any suggestions? The engine mount looks fine. From memory this issue started suddenly after mechanic tightened a STM after its initial installation.
As it was a lot louder and more frequent initially and is now less frequent, I am wondering if he left a tool somewhere in the engine bay which is causing the noise. I had a good hoke about, however I could not locate it anywhere.

Might have finally located the source of the noise.
Can someone tell me if all air box brackets make this noise.

I'll be dampening down at the weekend regardless, so well see how it goes.
