Hi and welcome.

I suspect that you need to burn the firmware CD again - but use a different CD-R and burn it at not more than 4X speed. The CRC means there are problems with the data file and it cannot read it most likely.

When you have done hat and finalised the disk, do the same thing by restarting it with the 2 white buttons held in as you have done.

See how you get on with that.

You won’t be able to downgrade the firmware to a lower version - even if it is not working with the higher version, because it already has the higher version written into the chip.

Try inserting the CD, take the unit out, leave it connected, then allow the car to go to sleep (let the BSI shut down for a few minutes), then disconnect the Quadlock connector (don’t disconnect he screen cable). Wait a few minutes, then with the white buttons firmly held down, reconnect the quadlock, and keep the buttons held down for up to 2 minutes.

See if that gets it out of the loop.

Best to try with the CD, but make sure you

In my experience the RT4 is very sensitive to the type of CD-R.
I myself have only got it to recognise a Verbaitim brand CD-R. I'm sure there are others that work but I would buy a few Verbaitim CDs and try again with that.
Also, for some reason the RT4 doesn't always recognise the two white buttons being pressed down, I have had to try a few times in a row to get it to actually boot from CD.

CRC is cyclic redundancy check. It's basically checking the installation media for errors before writing it to the hard drive to ensure it's not writing a corrupted firmware.

Ok check:
  • Make sure you did not use a MAC to format or copy the files to the USB (incompatibility with the configuration files).
  • Make sure you remove any SIM card first - any interruption (phone call) can cause a failure while updating.
  • You mentioned you have replaced the HDD after copying the partitions back - if this has not been done correctly, it can also cause issues, so it may be worth trying to remove the partitions and reformat the drive as FAT16 and start again. The Firmware CD will recreate the partition information for you again. Sometimes this is a better solution if there are errors on the old drive, to prevent copying them over.
At this stage I don't think you have anything to lose as it is obviously not working.

I would still make sure you create a new firmware CD using a Verbatim CD-R. Make sure you are not selecting Multisession and use the ISO 9660 + Joliet system and finalise the disk. BUT, better still, buy the original firmware CD from your Peugeot / Citroen dealer. They should be able to get this for you for a few Euros - there have been issues with copies of the original firmware CD!

Then once you have the HDD back in and connected up insert the CD. I would then switch the vehicle off, wiat for the BSI to sleep (clicking of relay), disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, connect it back up and leave it for 3 minutes without opening any doors. Then start the engine and try the upgrade again - with or without holding in the 2 white buttons.

Failing all of this I can't suggest anything else - the EPROM chip may be corrupt due to a previous interruption / failed attempt / or if the power was shut off during a previous attempt at upgrading.

Good luck - if this fails, your only other option is to send it to MM for a repair or find a specialist who can reprogramme the EEPROM chip for you and do the update.
