c5 suspension pump replacement
Hi, the maxi for my pump keeps going and the pumps getting lethargic. its a 2004 facelift. im going to source a second hand one, give it a good going over then fit that. are there any years i should avoid ? any bad batches or anything like that ? most i find seem to be older and higher millage than mine but working !!!
Re: c5 suspension pump replacement
Not really, it seems to be hit & miss when they fail.

Re: c5 suspension pump replacement
When I stripped down a couple of these it seemed to me that the main problem was water ingress into the electric motor causing the copper coils to erode into blue powder or filling the motor with a sludgy mix of dust and water.
I repaired the one on my first C5 by cutting out just a quarter inch of corroded wire and soldering in a bit of cooker wire, its still running fine after nearly three years.

Re: c5 suspension pump replacement
yeah i have a new (old) one now, my pumps finally stopped doing anything today, i was tapping the side of the motor to keep it going butnow its dead, i hope to rebuild it once out and have it as spare. need to fit this one now asap, i see my have to get to the other side of the wing/wheel arch, what is the best way for this ? just take out the arch liner ?

Re: c5 suspension pump replacement
Yes you need to take out the arch liner, it's a simple enough job. The pipe from the reservoir passes through the body and there's a hose clip stopping you pulling it up through.
There's a join in that pipe at the bottom so it's easy to disconnect it there to drain the tank without getting drowned in LDS.

After fitting the new pump you should set the tank under pressure before starting the car - not so much - a half bar will be enough.

Have you checked the Maxi fuses? Or at least that it has power present at the pins?

Re: c5 suspension pump replacement
cant find anything obvious, all sensor wires we went near seem fine, the suspension is lower than the normal low position after fitting this pump. ive just started the car and the asr fault didnt apear but sus still not moving, going for the big reset now

Re: c5 suspension pump replacement
Did you pressurise the tank to prompt the self bleed to start?

Re: c5 suspension pump replacement
hi, after the bsi reset the fault (ASR) flashed up imediatly, after some help finally found the nearside rear brake bulb gone, replaced that still showing fault so doing the reset again zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz !
the suspension wont do anything till i sort this fault. by the way funny things ~ disconected the suspension computer at some point , put the ignition on and flashed up Airbag fault and would not let me start the car ! modern cars are just toooo clever for my liking

Re: c5 suspension pump replacement
Any chance your battery voltage is down a bit with the repeated attempts to resolve this problem.
Low voltage can chuck up a lot of spurious fault indications. A blown bulb should not impact on anything, I've had a headlight off for a week, not the bulb but an internal fault with the effect that the bulb won't light.
A couple of days after fitting electric front seats I had an airbag fault flagged twice. Never did anything about it and it went away. I presume it is a less than perfect connection to the one of the seats and will receive attention eventually.

Re: c5 suspension pump replacement
i was under the impression that the brakes system had to be in the correct condition for the suspension to 'work'. ive herd of brake lights out suspension not working. either way im still getting the same fault after the reset. what would be the most likely causes of a abs/esr fault ? i do not recieve a 'suspenion' fault so i still have to assume that i cant get my car up untill this brake fault clears.
it is worth saying that 90% of the time the cruise control has not worked in the 6 months i have had the car but this has never affected anything, maybe this is related ?

Re: c5 suspension pump replacement
There is a fault situation where the brake light switch goes short circuit and lights the brake lights are lit.
The car thinks the brake are on and cuts the fuel supply.
Braking while driving therefore cuts the fuel supply and aids braking (engine braking).
Accidentally pressing the brake pedal will also cause the fuel to be cut off.
A light bulb out won't affect things in the same way.
