OB2?

Post by oscar »

Hi anyone know what protocol the Xsara Picasso 2.0 HDI 2001 works with?
As got a OB2 reader but looking like has to be 04+ with diesels but must work with something as the AA had it hooked up good while back and re set faults

Lexia is your best bet, generics are pretty useless for anything other than basic reading and clearing of some faults, but do not have the ability to work well with manufacturer specific codes.

The Picasso is OBD2 compliant though.

I thought that PSA were very tardy in making their cars OBD II compliant. IIRC the final years for non-compliance were 2001 (petrol) and 2003 (diesel) and our 2001 Xsara HDi was certainly not compliant.

The AA will be using a reader that is a bit more expensive than a £25 Ebay special and will read codes that aren't OBD II compliant.

As other reply it seems 01 petrol and 03/04 diesels mine is 01 diesel plugged in working on it then says check connection as car isn't sending etc

No this was ultra "Expensive" £9.50 does have some good info if comms worked though its a hand held jobbie only need it to read something though but will insert into friends car if not having it will get a refund!
Other ones looked at was unit plug in then sends to android or laptop so download junk to gadget(phone) one app has shed loads even fuel used/trip mileage/economy. also can set out a dashboard of dials if got full app.

My information states that for EEC2000 vehicles (Xsara Picasso 2.0 HDi 90 2001) for example is EOBD (European equivalent of OBDII) compliant, despite the general 2004 for diesel vehicles. Codes for the following systems can be read by any mechanic with a SCANTOOL system or capable diagnostic tool:
  • Ignition misfiring
  • Efficiency of the catalytic converter
  • Condition of the oxygen sensors
  • All those components whose malfunctioning can cause the permitted emission limits to be exceeded (air injection, EGR)
  • Continuity of the canister purge electrovalve circuit
It will depend on model I suspect.
