Activating cruise control

Post by jrc5 »

Hi guys, hoping someone can provide some insight.

Had my car (Citroen C5 estate MK1 2.0 hdi 90hp) hooked up to lexia in hope of activating cruise control.

Found the settings in injection menu, it states cruise control is disabled, go to enable it, nothing.... Can't see anyway to change it. Am I missing something?

Whilst it was hooked up also tested the redundant break switch (red one). No change in status when pushing pedals, got a couple of wires and joined the red switch to the white socket, status of the switch changed. I doubt very much that there is a separate fuse or relay for the red switch/socket. So I imagine the cable is probably damaged somewhere, has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Assuming you have the cruise stalk installed and the cruise setting on it enabled, and the secondary brake switch installed, then depending on model and therefore BSI version, there may be a further setting to enable it in the BSI section as well as the Engine ECU section. Try going to customer options at the top menu and see if you can install it there first....

Hi Marc

I've been reading up on posts across the interweb it says motorised throttle is a must and some early models don't have this.
I'm hoping that not the case for me, as my car has the comms unit that's able to take the stalk and also has the red switch wiring. (Why would citroen fit 2 out of 3 required items..... oh wait citroen logic).

Is anyone able to provide a picture of both types so I can check which one mine has?

Diesel engines don't have a throttle, only petrol engines.

Wheeler wrote a PDF on retrofitting cruise control a kittle while ago: https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... =3&t=45175

Isn't CC a function of the injection ECU, rather than an add-on?

The brake switch wiring has two options (and may/may not have the required switch for the Cruise Control to work). The fact you have the red switch indicates that the braking side should work (the red switch is a push to break type, as opposed to the white switch, which is a push to make style (for the brake lights)).

When I added Cruise Control to my Mk1 C5 all I needed to do was to connect the stalk (I already had the brake switch function), go into the configuration menu for the driver switch (I am sorry but I cannot remember the exact route), change Cruise Control from Absent to Present, save the setting, test it (checking the Lexia could see what the stalk was doing), and then use it.

It is usually configurable in the Engine ECU Chris - but there are varying Injection systems in use and there are also varying levels of BSI on the earlier models, which came in a Low, Medium and High spec. BSI to start with. So for very early models it may not be in the BSI to start with and that means it can't be activated - where it is not solely configured in the engine ECU.

I know there are some individuals who fitted all the necessaries pnly to find at the end of the day that the option was missing in Lexia. On some models it can be added in from the customer options menu and then once in there it can be enables from the BSI - but again it depends on the model, injection variant and the BSI fitted.

Have a look in my c5 profile thread (link in my footer). I've retro fitted cruise control to the exact same model (albeit the 110bhp rather than 90bhp version...) and posted up description and pics, including lexia screen shots

The way wurlycorner shows in his profile is how I did it in my C5. The only difference between his and my C5 is that mine (being a later C5 Mk1) is that I have the red and white switch combined into one casing.
