Well, I have a 7.0 something on disks (including updates), and 7.15 on my DiagBox. I let it search for upgrades in the past, and (up to 7.15) this worked. 7.16 showed up the hardware version issue. It DID work for me then, although I do admit it is possible that PSA have now locked it down, so it might not work now.

I think it better not to attempt this as it is just going to confuse the OP and potentially block his unit.

sooooo...now running V07.58, plugged into car and....exactly the same result as before.
'16 bit' error still appearing.

do i now wipe the laptop again, Diagbox leaves bits everywhere from memory and a pain to clear out?, re-install from the disc i have V07.02 and see what happens?

or accept the possibility that the VCI is too old for anything above V5 or 6?

That is a distinct possibility, we know that older units have problems talking to full CAN vehicles, but certainly the C5s and 308s in many cases - but no easy way to identify this. Can you try it on another PSA vehicle first?

A funny question I know but is the "New Look Citroen C5" (Pic in post 2) the facelift Mk1 or the X7?

Ok, so you mean in the title area of the second Lexia Pic - yes that refers to the C5 MK II or MK I Facelift however you want to refer to it, but not the X7.

That's why it is sometimes easier to refer to these as a MK I, MK II & MK III (or X7), becasue the Citroen designation of 'New Look' can be confusing - especially since the X7 was launched.

right, finally managed to plug into a Pug 206 2002.
still comes up with the missing '16 bit' as per pic 1 then press ignore and then DAM no? which i assume is similar to RPO? entered a 4 digit no from sticker on B pillar.
PP then says no device connected, switch off and start again.

looking like a fresh install and new VCI ?

Try unplugging the USB, waiting, then plugging it back in, then repeat on any other USB ports you may have - in case the driver is not installed properly. Unfortunately, this can be down to many things - not least the pins in the connector, the solder welds inside the VCI - incorrect or corrupt software installation / virus checker software / firewall blocking communications etc.

had another few goes, still no joy.
all 3 USB ports act the same, system sees the device as connected.
searched for the RNBOVDD.DLL on laptop, not found, internet seems to say its part of various software programs so presumably missing off my install of Diagbox?

as i 'think' my VCI was originally from a Lexia install i may have to remove Diagbox and start afresh.
now from memory just uninstalling doesn't remove all of the files? so a wipe of the laptop may occur IF i can find my XP disc or the recovery disc

You should remove all previous version of any stand alone Lexia installation prior to installing Diagbox - as the installation is different and this may be causing a conflict. RNBOVDD.DLL is a virtual Device Driver resource library for various 16 bit software applications and is not normally needed for 32 bit Windows apps - however will be needed for the encapsulated Lexia / PP2000 applications when you finally get your Diagbox reinstalled again.

I always recommend a clean install of the operating system when initially installing Diagbox. Always best if you keep the laptop for diagnostics and keep if clean of any other bloatware and the like. Assuming you don't connect to the internet or a local network, I wouldn't even bother with a virus checker as that is very resource hungry.

I have XP service pack 3 if you need that (as there are no patches or updates available from MS now), assuming you find your XP installation disc - I got rid of my XP ISO files earlier this year after migrating the diagnostics and VMs over to Win 7.

Diagbox on this laptop was a fresh install, it was purchased purely for use with the Diagbox i got from easydiagnostics but then sold.
it is internet ready but only on if neccessary, not when running Diagbox.

i'll start rooting around later to see what i've got.
