2011 Trafic injector stretch bolts

Post by nerdAs »

I have owned my 2011 Renault Trafic from new. In August 2017 I had three of the injectors replaced after originally complaining to Renault UK about them being heavily corroded due to the much documented scuttle panel seal failing. The dealer and Renault UK shared the cost of the repair and I contributed 10%. Fast forward to a little over a month ago when I discovered a massive mess under the injector cover. The dealer has advised that one of the copper seals had failed allowing exhaust gases to escape and damage the cylinder head, causing the need of a very costly replacement. It has been brought to my attention that during the original repair the dealer fixed the injectors with a non-standard stud and nut rather than using manufacture specified stretch bolts.

My questions are- if this non-standard fixing (using a stud) is acceptable? Also, whether the clamping method or the washer is the likely point/ route cause of the failure?
