1.5dci not starting

Post by xsaras4ever »

So here goes.

To our massive embarrassment, we purchased a Renault Megane 3 years ago with an injection fault which we still have not fixed.

Its a 1.5dci estate. K9K728 engine , 100bhp. Delphi systems.

We have Renault Can Clip, V140.

When we bought the car, we changed the pump, rail and injectors. We also remover the fuel tank, flushed it and the fuel lines. Also did the timing belt and water pump, changed the fuel filter.

The car would not start. We put it to the back of the queue.

CLIP says no fuel rail pressure.

We got it out last year, took it apart and checked the timing again , spot on. Changed the TDC and camshaft sensor from another running car (80bhp model) but still no start.

We are determined this time, so its back in the our garage, blocking everything from progressing - so it HAS to be fixed.

Swapped the HP fuel pressure regulator (brown connection) for another one , still no start.

It starts with easy-start and as long as the easy-start is gently sprayed , it will keep running, but without easy-start it will not run.

Injectors are coded and showing up correct on CLIP.

We have a CR508 so we connect it to the rail pressure sensor, crank the engine, get it to fire with easy-start but the CR508 also shows no rail pressure.

When we turn on the simulation and dial the CR508 to 300bar, CLIP shows 300bar on live data - this appears to confirm that there really IS no rail pressure.
When we undo the pipe from the pump to the rail, crank the engine , diesel spits out. When we crank and get it to fire with easy-start, it shoots out like a power-hose. Granted , we understand that the term "shoots-out" is very different from 280bar.

When we start it with easy-start and get it to run for about 15 secs, we run CLIP again. The rail pressure under cranking is 17bar (on clip) and it shows just 1 fault (DF053 2def: Rail Pressure Regulation Function - At Maximum Limit)

Inlet air temperature is at -50degrees - think that CLIP says that this is a default for this engine.

How can the rail pressure show so low and the regulation be at maximum limit ? Is it that the pump isn't allowing pressure to the rail because it would be too high ?

I think Steelcity on here had similar issues with a rebuilt 1.5dci. I don't think he got to the bottom of it and had full Lexia. Renault Forums are best bet. There really is no Renault love on here from all the usuall contributors.
