CAN Clip

Post by jimmymarsbar »

Does anyone have or know of anyone who has CAN clip? Just bought a Megane 1.5dCi and would like to look to see what old fault codes there may be stored

Cheers Lighty, I've picked up a Delphi clone which was recommended to me by a well respected member on another forum.

I've heard CAN Clip is a pig to use - is there any truth in this? I'll see how the car goes over the next couple of months and decide whether to lump out on the interface and software.

Is the Delphi clone able to release and reset the handbrake? Servicing the brakes is the only reason I would like can clip so far.

I've not had a deep interrogation using Delphi yet, as far as I can see it's a code/live data set up, rather than something like planet or Lexia. That's why I'm still looking out for CAN Clip.

I've got a couple of cars to play with using the Delphi, so I can let you know how I get on.

Can clip is quite tricky to use as a beginner, we have had it for years, so have got reasonable at it, however Iam sure it can do lots of stuff I know nothing about :)
The Delphi tool is very good, and I would think you can do Renault brakes with it no problem. £ for £ it's the best copy tool by miles and was the only tool in our arsenal that could do a DPF regen on a 1.6 Nissan Qashqai yesterday, we even has a new £3.5 K Actia diagnostic tool, which doesn't even list a 1.6 dci Nissan.

The one thing that surprised me about the Delphi was how fast it grabbed codes and deleted them. On planet, it's usually a good few minutes chewing it's way through the ECU's, then deleting is time consuming in comparison to the Delphi.

If clip is anything like Dialogys, then it's a bit of a mare!

Been playing around on the Delphi, and there isn't much more you can do on Planet/Diagbox that you can't do on the Delphi. Actuator tests, regens etc, it's all do-able.

I imagine that the same could be said for Delphi vs Clip.

I'm kind of cautious about "testing" on my own Megane, SWMBO would go bananas if I ballsed something up!!

So what actually is the Delphi? I'd quite like a look at it now.

It's a diagnostic software and interface set up, Chinese clones being sold on fleabay for £50-60.

As has been previously stated, they are £ for £ among the best bits of kit out there.

It works on all major marques and models, including vans, lorries and other large vehicles. The interface comes with a handful of different cables for differing vehicle types.

Comparing it with PP2K, Lexia and Diagbox, the Delphi kit can do the vast majority of functions, such as DPF regens, actuator tests and enabling functions. And it is so much quicker than the PSA gadgets.

It did spit it's dummy out when I was trying to get to grips with a 307 which had lost it's BSI config, and PP2K worked better in this instance.

For the sake of £60, it's well worth having just for it's speed and simplicity.

This link doesn't seem to work anymore - may I ask what keywords are best?

Also, do I understand correctly that it should be possible to add/remove functions with this Delphi unit?
