Renault 25

Post by Paul-Polo »

Hi, I'm Paul.
I am new to this forum.
I have been running 25s now for about 25 years (25 x 25!) - Before that I had a 16, which I absolutely adored until I wrote it off - Shame, because they have become quite valuable more recently.
I am still running mine daily - although I have a problem to resolve just now on a front suspension re-build.
I would be interested to learn if anyone else is still running one on the road or not, as the case may be.
I haven't seen another on the road for something like 8 years.
It is getting more difficult to run now as there are almost none left in scrap yards and specialist parts dealers are low on anything for them now.

Hi Paul

Must apologise, whenever anyone mentions Renault 25 I'm afraid I always get a flashback to Joanne and David.

The first was the best...the smug look on David's face when he announces...John's with me, Ians with me and we've got the backing.....

Heres the final installment where Joanne gets the V6 Turbo.....

Totally cringeworthy but I love it!

Hi Neil,
Yes, thanks for the post.
I guess that, if you can afford to run one, the V6 is the one to have.
Best,
Paul

A Renault 25 baccara v6 turbo sold for £1220.01 in 2015, and got an airing on the "Classics under £10,000" thread.

Maybe not the exact car , but the interior could well be described as..sumptuous :-D and a nice caramac brown :!:

I have always loved the 25.. And still want a phase two.. The v6 is of course shared with the Citroen XM... Of which Ive a 24v version which were never fitted to the 25.. Only 12v and turbos..

A sumptious car indeed.. You could try facebook if your on social media there are a few 25 lovers on there and a couple of groups dedicated...

Those 25 bacarras were bloody gorgeous. I remember sitting in one in a local dealer many moons ago and thinking I want this!

Still miss my Monaco. One of those things where if I had it now I'd have repaired it in a heartbeat, but at the time it was beyond my abilities.

Still kinda hope that I'll own one one day, but time's running out I guess as with so many of the cars on my wish list.

Would have to be a Phase 1 car for me as I far perferred the look of them...especially in the deep bronze that the Monaco came in.

Another car I've always wanted and there are actually two sat doing nothing, in separate locations, near us in Crewe. One is a Ph1 in Silver/grey and might be a GTX but is in very poor condition and well messed with. (front leather/rear cloth seats, wires and switches hanging out all over the place, rotten and filthy)

The other appears to be a later & high spec (maybe Monaco?) model in that dark maroon/bronze and appears in much better condition. (I believe part of the reason the owner has kept this one is due to it having a private plate and not being able to transfer without MoT)

Both have been sat unused & not moved for as long as I've known about them (at least 10years more like 15) and despite numerous attempts I've not been able to contact/find their owners. The Phase 1 looks like a lost cause/parts only and I won't be wasting any more effort trying to get it but the Ph2 seems saveable depending on finding the owner and getting them to play ball. I have no interest in the plate just the car so might try to work out a deal somehow if I ever find who they are!!! So no more on the road as far as I know, but if my "quest" ever bears fruit I'll post back...

Interesting...Wasn't aware of there every being a phase 2 Monaco, but at the same time I'm not aware of that particular colour ever being offered elsewhere, my understanding was that it was unique to the Monaco...

Just having sat around for a long while doesn't necessarily mean the car will be beyond saving...Does definitely mean a lot of work for someone though.

I'm aware of what I'm reasonably confident is a R25 (could be a 21 but don't think so) close to where I live (that's 150 ish miles from you in Oldham), on a driveway in a 'that's not moved for some time' sort of condition. Is it potentially of interest? I only know so far what I've noticed driving past it

I'll try and have a closer look next time I'm in the area and confirm one way or the other, possibly get pics. I'd say its definitely a ph2 though judging by the lights (possible "upgrade"/replacement to a ph1 though???)

The grey/silver ph1 is 99.9% not worth repairing IMO, maybe if there were only 5 left or something, but it really is shot at, abused, unloved, rotten to the point of holes in the screen pillars and unoriginal to the point of butchery :(

I do get your point however, being somewhat of a serial "abandoned-wreck" rescuer... Our Escort cabriolet we're using regularly now had stood on a garage forecourt for no less than 8 years until we rescued and re-commissioned it this spring, but the early 25 sadly does look very far gone.
