Scenic electronic dash ilumination problem.. HELP PLEASE!!!!

Post by patanga »

Hi there... I'm enquiring on behalf of an elderly friend with a 2005 Scenic Phase 2 Authenticate and who is experiencing very dull instrument numbers lumination symptoms during daylight hours. He tells me that the instruments vary from being more readable in shaded areas, to excellent at night. Whether this is a common complaint and one that can be remedied is what I am trying to discover so that the old guy can get back on the road without having to stress about speeding tickets etc. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Pardon me for stating the obvious but most cars have illumination adjustment for the panel, has this been checked - sometimes it is altered accidentally.

Renault had big problems with this particular display. Eventually they replaced loads of them under warranty. There are companies who do replacements for about 100 quid I think. I was glad to see the back of my Scenic it was an electronic nightmare and a pain up the @£se.

The owner is technically quite competent so I'm sure he would have checked for a rheostat type dimmer adjustment. That said I will ask the question.

Regards aftermarket replacement options; Any recommendations as to where I might get one?

Cheers.

There are companies advertising on ebay for repair or replacement.

Renault had that dash built by another company sub contract.
It is mostly dry solder contacts that are the issue.

The problem here is one of the EU,s own making EU solder has a high alloy content because they like to have things biodegradable lead free and non violent its a common problem with EU vehicles and there are a few companies that resolder the printed cicuits on a px basis ECU repair being one the high alloy causes dry jointing but does make millions for the dealers !
