Single din to double din

Post by Jmh474 »

So first off just like to say hello to everyone.

As the title suggests is it possible to convert a Citroën xsara Picasso from single din to a double din?? Iv looked over the Internet but most people buy a converter panel and they charge like £200,
And if you ask me that's a bit over the top.

So I'm hoping someone has all ready had a go at this and give me a little help or advice.

Well just like to say a big THANK you so anyone that can help.

Hi, not really, as the heating control panel is directly underneath. Also consider that the original RD4 unit also functions as more than just a radio. It does provide access to some of the vehicles configuration options depending on your trim, and will affect any parking assistance if fitted.

Is there not enough room under the heater control panel then?? Then I could move the window switches.

And also my car does not have parking assistance.

Also the double din is not deep only

50mm deep - 178mm wide - 102mm high

If you aren't fussy about selling the car on later then I think you've answered your own question - but be very careful about any wiring changes you may make - multiplexed networks operate differently to standard wiring - one connection to the wrong wire and you can easily damage you BSI - rendering the car useless.

I only say this as we've had lots of cases were people have fitted aftermarket units and found the car becomes unusable because of incorrect wiring, but good luck with the project.

I'm confident with the wiring as I'm a sparky by trade so not too worried about that Iv got all tester and that it's just getting the double din to fit and not looking ugly.

I'm now trying to find if there is a double din surround to angle the head unit up so it easier to use and see.
