GPS antenna

Post by ADY-ULTRAS »

Did anyone had issues with the GPS antenna?!? It can be repaired or needs to be replaced? How do I take it off? It's difficult? Thanks for your help!
PS: my car is Citroen C5 MKIII Tourer.

If your X7 is the same as mine then the stubby roof antenna is for the GPS (and also, I believe, GSM phone). The aerials for the radio on my Tourer are printed on the inside of the rearmost side windows. I don't know where the saloon's radio aerials are.

You get to the roof aerial by carefully lowering the roof lining. This is quite difficult to do without damaging it and the removal instructions state that it is necessary to fit a new lining if you crease it! Mine was replaced under warranty (along with just about everything else!) when I tried to get the radio to work on FM properly.

Can it be repaired? Dunno - it obviously depends on what's broken. It would be quite a specialise job I would think. It might be easy if it's just water ingress; I found that the roof aerial on my old Xsara had suffered from that when the radio went U/S. I replaced it but I think it might have been possible to clean it up when I inspected it later.

The base of the aerial is called the amplifier so there will be a 12v (possibly lower) supply to it. If this isn't there then it won't work properly.

Finally, what exactly is the problem? Around the time I was having the radio problems the satnav stopped seeing the satellites. According to the map, at times I was driving through the Irish Sea. The replacement of the radio head had already been authorised by Citroen and this cleared my satnav problem at the same time. The roof aerial had been replaced previously and before the satnav went bad so that wasn't the problem.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

My radio signal is very good but the connection to satellites is missing. Sometimes it can see 1 satellite for a while. When I switch to map mode it shows me somewhere on a field... :(

Do you have your VIN handy? There are different setups for the aerial connections depending on Audio kit fitted and model. For example, there are 3 different types of Saloon rear screens - depending on your options - the same for your antenna. I can check what you have and maybe this will help.

If you want a quick fix I'd suggest getting a 3rd party GPS antenna and hiding it under your dash.

Soemthing like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GPS-SAT-NAV- ... SwAQBap0g4

Image

There's a nice spot under the central dash air duct that allows a good view of the windscreen. It won't be as good as the original and you'll have to take the dash apart to do it but it could be an option if nothing else works.

I've ordered and waiting to see how it works. At Citroen, the antenna is £9 and the wires / connections £75. First let's see how it works with the new antenna. Keep you updated!

Ok so I have received your VIN now and you have the RNEG (MyWay) telematics system on your 2009 Tourer.

The aerial harness is number 5 in the diagram, which goes into the adapter (10)

X7 RNEG Tourer Aerial.PNG
So both the aerial base (1) and the aerial wire that screws in (2) are different - so if replacing, make sure you replace with the same part numbers in the diagram I listed, as others will not provide the functionality.
As for the rear quarterlights, they appear to be the same as Paul's -

Could that adapter (10) be at fault? Anyway, waiting for the GPS antenna to see how it works and after that we will see what we have to do. Thanks guys for your help and keep you updated!

The GPS wiring goes direct to the aerial base I suspect - part 10 is only for the radio wiring - if you look below at one of the fault codes - you can see that one symptom of lack of satellites is a low voltage below:
RNEG GPS.PNG
So it is possible that there has been some water ingress / corrosion inside the aerial base. It is of course difficult to say for sure though as you can appreciate.

At the rear of the RNEG unit I believe the Blue connector is the GPS aerial - so it might be better and simpler to fit an aftermarket one in like EDC5 mentioned before

Hi guys! Unfortunately I have bad news. I received yesterday the new GPS antenna but it can't see not even 1 satellite. I reinstall the software (rneg50b) with the new antenna from the CD, I drove about 15 miles but still nothing. I plugged in the car's antenna and it can see 1 satellite. Any ideas to fix the issue?!?

Ok did it contain the gps module or was it just the antenae?

The one tha EDC5 linked to is the GPS module and that just plugs in the existing fakra connection and should give you some coverage from the box if located in / on the dash.

The aerial part alone won’t do it as it needs the GPS module to work.
