Peugeot 307 1.4 diagnostic help needed

Hello folks.

I'm having some grief with my Peugeot 307 1.4dhi, I have posted a full breakdown of its symptoms over on the Peugeot forums and the general consensus is it needs to go onto the Peugeot planet diagnostics system to be properly read and get live data from the sensors.

However, from their member map there is no one remotely near me with a pp2k, however I have seen that bannedbiker on this forum is listed as a pp2k provider. I have sent him an email a few days ago through this forums contact system, but had no response. Has anyone heard from them recently and know if they are still active? I had wondered if being new to the forum might restrict me being able to make contact?

For those interested. The car runs great from cold but then goes into limp mode once warmed up and once warmed up the engine will cut out completely if over half throttle is applied (so have to ditch on the hard shoulder). The car always restarts after dying no problem, and will come out of limp mode if allowed to go completely cold and then restart. I am posting this from my phone my and can't see how to add a link to the thread on Peugeot forums.

Bannedbiker hasn't logged in since August 2017 so may have withdrawn from the forum. Could also be that he is on a holiday abroad and will respond eventually.

Anyone with Diagbox will be able to help you as this contains PP2K as encapsulated software and will automatically launch if needed for your car and model.

Thanks, I have sent davetherave a PM, hopefully he'll get back to me, not able to drag the car too far from home as it cuts out so frequently once warm that is a traffic hazard!

My last resort will be see if the French car specialist cit-ren ltd near me are able to help, but I don't have any knowledge of what they are like to deal with as a garage. I really can't afford any big bills on this car, so if it can't be fixed cheaply I will have to dispose of it, which seems a shame as I'm sure its probably a good car in reality.

However, having followed the posts, I see that there is a screenshot with the errors from whoever did this. I would be happy to provide what I can on these errors , but require a VIN as the errors can vary depending on engine. Post it here (not in a PM) and the forum software will automatically mask it from public view.

Ok, as I suspected those codes don't natively come up against this engine ECU, and the reason is probably because of the build date of the vehicle being 5th September 2002. The fuller list of Diesel fault codes started to come in about 2004 on, with far more information available.

I have managed to locate the P0704 fault and that of course relates to the clutch switch not detecting movement through gear changes when engine is warm at least after 5 minutes.

Now in light of what you have already said about it being fine at start up, getting progressively worse, that would seem to correlate:

Now the clutch contact switch is part number 212778, item (8) in the diagram below:

So I can't help with the other code regarding the fuel pump as it isn't listed - generally I don't like playing 'parts darts', but it may be worth a punt for the price and it does cover the issues you described as you can see in the table.

Thanks for that incredibly detailed reply! I did have a look for the clutch switch when the chap first had the fault codes read for me, but must admit I couldn't positively identify it. I did wonder if this car is fitted with one as it doesn't have cruise control, but I shall have another thorough look now I know what I'm looking for (won't be until Wednesday as I'm away on work). Well I have had another look, and probing the connector of the clutch switch while pumping the clutch pedal up and down seems to show that the clutch switch is working fine.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a wiring diagram or pin diagram for the ECU so I can see if the signal from the clutch switch is actually reaching the ECU?

1320 is your Engine ECU
7306 is your Cruise Control Safety Switch (Clutch)
The clutch activation switch is wire 1384Z and that goes to a 32 pin black connector on the Injection ECU (1320) at E3.

It may be worth checking your fuse (F18) on the BSI on the inside of the car, as that controls the diagnostic connector, Brake control switch, the clutch control switch, engine coolant level switch and the photochromic internal mirror where fitted. I expect it will be fine, unless you also suspect any of the other components I mentioned.

An update for those
interested. I have probed and tested and established that the ECU is now definitely receiving a signal from the clutch switch. I could even feel a difference on the test drive with engine rpm seeming to not fall off as rapidly when making a gear change, resulting in much smoother progress and easier shifting.

However unfortunately the sudden cut out and limp mode problem persists, although it took a lot longer to occur on this drive than it had previously. The car still has the anti-pollution fault message and malfunction light on the dash from startup as well.

I'm guessing by process of elimination the p0230 code must be the culprit?
