Partner Tepee Auto gearbox problems

Post by nilrem »

Hello
This is an enquiry to check if anyone has had or having my automatic gearbox problem

Imagine you are driving along merrily approaching a T junction breaking gently car slowing down through the gears 4th to 3rd to 2nd steadily applying more break pressure cos your approaching a junction but suddenly you find that your applying more break pressure cos the car is not slowing down and seems to wants to accelerate, breaking hard now, car starting to slow now and judders almost stalling engine revs now start to diminish ( as normal ) and then changes to 1st as it come's to a halt - scary, bloody scary. It's almost like someone else is driving the damn thing. Reminds me of the film 'Love Bug' about a possessed VW beetle.

The car has still got 12 months warranty but would like to be armed with the knowledge that it maybe an ongoing fault so wont be fobbed off by the guarded dealer when I take it in tomorrow...joe

Thanks for the quick reply - The car was 1st registered Mar 2016 Partner Tepee Active Blue 1.6HDi - got an extended warranty to June 2019 which is a good - having difficulty getting it fitted in to the very tight dealers summer schedule, mechanics off on hols but there's a chance of getting it looked at under Safety concerns I hope ...joe

I can understand the concern with safety. Once the complaint has been drawm to their attention it'll always be under the warranty period. I'll give this chap a ring.

Hiya.

The brief convo ive had with the chap, he says it'll be a piloted gearbox, and if it's fighting itself to a stand still he's had quite a few clutch issues with them.

Keep that thought in mind when you go back to the dealer. As he says if it is that they'll get a wriggle on to get out of it as its classed as a wearable item.

Apart from that he didn't says much else about them. He's a good chap, been doing cits and pugs from the early 90s. God bless that guy, I'd of been committed long ago if it was me.

What's your VIN? I'll be able to confirm exactly what gearbox you have.

Ok, thanks, now confirmed as piloted 6 speed box:

PARTNER TEPEE (B9) FAMILY SALOON 1.6 HDi 100 FAP (DV6FD) piloted manual gearbox 6 (With stop and start)

My advice is to walk away from it and return it ASAP as not fit for purpose.

These things are a PITA and very expensive to repair. Get a manual or a fully auto, but I would not touch one of these piloted manuals with a barge pole.

Blinking heck....(take that as an Industrial Language Expletive) - what to do!? - will be seeing the dealer (salesman) Monday who is to drive it with a view to replicate my problem, I wonder if he will admit to the known history of problems with these Piloted G/B's - doubt it

Whats my position on wanting to return it - acquired mid April

Not having much look with cars at the moment - my C4 Picasso's inlet manifold is choked up with crud removed in volume about what looks like a lb of sugar due to the bloody EGR system, thinking of blanking it off...joe

No problems, I'll have a look to see if anything you describe is obviously available - but are you getting any warning lights? There may be some fault codes stored in he BSI that can be read with Diagbox - which will give you an indication. I know this is not what you really want to hear, but there are very complicated systems with electro hydraulic actuators, pumps, hydraulic blocks and calibration routines that generally make these systems a specialist repair if anything goes wrong. You'll find a lot of the dealers may not even bother with a repair, but simply suggest replacement of the components and they are not cheap. Here are just a few of the parts prices - and there are lots of them - so when you add the labour on it can become very expensive down the line.

I'm not sure what sort of warranty you have on it, or how long you have had it, but either get everything done under the warranty to your utter satisfaction, or reject it while you can.

£200 Pump
£771 Hydraulic Unit
£690 Electro pump
£362 ECU
And the list goes on...

Here are some of the parts for your reference in case you are interested, which don't include the actual gearbox or the clutch which are separate.

After my problems with a c2 sensodrive which was an earlier version of this gearbox I will never but another robotised manual semi auto again. Full auto or full manual. A semi anything is by definition a compromise. I would be trying to return the car and getting your money back then get something different.
