2009 Peugeot 308 1.6vti cooling system

Post by alanty »

THE radiator on my 308 is very hot at the plastic top yet cold below this, the expansion tank is getting a feed from the top of the radiator, the water temp gauge reads 90c .The heater is hot.
Is this normal for this model as I have only just bought the car as i would expect the bottom of the radiator to be at least warm after long runs

Welcome!

It's probably normal at this time of year; the rad is designed to cool the car flat out at an air temp of over 30C - it's well overdesigned for pootling about when the air temp is in single figures, so not much water will be flowing through.

I would not worry about a cold radiator, there is lots of excess cooling capacity under normal conditions.

Do you know exactly which version of engine your car has? Ours has the 156hp turbo. I think (confusingly) that the Vti is the non-turbo version.
