I was met with that attitude when I bought my GS and is possibly why the dealers got away with such inflated prices.
Did the work myself, learning as I went and found that the GS at least was easier to work on than my previous British cars once the different logic was understood (Logic - what logic?).

Trunnions, king pins, grease nipples, torsion bars, points, 20W-50 oil, tubes etc. Old British cars were great!

Before the GS I spent half my life re-bushing the bloody kingpins in the Imps.
Until someone told me the easy way to do it and to OIL them, not grease them.
Then there was the headgaskets of course

The only good thing about old British cars, is the roads were quieter and fuel was cheap

You missed out something. No electronics requiring a degree in computing to get the car tell you what it thought was wrong with it (not that the degree would help, as the car was usually incorrect with its' diagnosis!). Just simple, straightforward mechanical bits (allowing for the basic electrics, such as the starter motor and ignition systems).

I like bullet connections and I agree about the electronics and how complex they are. No timing lamps and rotating distributors now no cleaning the points no 10 Embassy tinfoil to make an emergency fuse now and maybe the world is a little worse without them. It wasn't just British cars, I had an Renault 4 and it had loads of issues too, it was resprayed Ford tractor blue and those sliding windows were great if you were a smoker. In Ireland, all those old cars are expensive as are parts for them. I saw a really nice looking Hillman Hunter at the weekend and a few pristine Minors at a local show.
Oh buggle
