205 timing
Lilpug is a little poorly. She is running slightly erractly, missing at times and backfiring. I have fitted new plugs, plus leads, air filter, fuel filter, oil and oil filter. It feels like the timing is out. However it has Bosch single point injection, electronic ignition and an ecu. So therfore I can't do anything about the timing. Anyone any ideas. Here's a pic of the engine bay if someone can confirm it's an xu5

Re: 205 timing
Davie, there is no timing adjustments as your Pug is running Bosch MP5.1...
The most likely cause of your problem will be a weak mixture due to an air leak...
The most likely suspect here, and I've seen it loads of times, is a split/perished vacuum pipe running from the inlet manifold to the MAP sensor sitting on the bulkhead...
I've also seen this pipe blocked...
Hope that is the cause and it sorts out all the issues...

Re: 205 timing
If its that Jim it will be a simple repair. My son in law hasnt seen my car but his 1.6 gti, I dont know its age I think its quite a bit older than my car, has a distributer he claims and he can alter the timing on his. This probably is the case, as he would have basically the same 1.6 XU5 engine but set up totally differently, as I believe I have only appxox 80 bhp and he would have 115 I think.

Re: 205 timing
Yes, he can as he has the Bosch LU2 Jetronic on his GTi... Yours has a totally different system Davie and I can assure you the timing is fixed!
There is no dizzy on yours...
Your ignition coil is identical to that fitted to the Activa!
One other cause of your problem could be your ignition amplifier module...

Re: 205 timing
I was thinking that was the difference going by the BOL. Of course it gives little help with my problem other take it to a stealer! I shall look at the vacuum pipe first, I doubt if it will be for a few days, I've now for a dose of food poisoning to contend with, can't keep anything down, even a sip of water with my meds, just came straight back out
