White/gray smoke from exhaust

Post by adam11 »

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum so forgive me if i dont make sense sometimes. I have a Peugeot 206 1.6 hdi Gti, it used to give blue smoke but it stopped when i changed oil filter and oil. The problem now is the car gives white/gray smoke from the exhaust when cold but stops or gives less gray/white smoke when the temperature is at 80. The car still has good amount of power to pull but also vibrates a bit when the car is still and engine is on.

Could anyone please have any idea of what the problem would be. I do not want to go to a garage first because they can tell me anything and i will believe it and cost me alot of money. I would rather have opinion of anyone who has been through this or has knowledge of what would be the problem.

Thank you guys for reading.

any help would be appreciated.

Whitish smoke from the exhaust is usually a sign of unburnt fuel but if it stops when the engine is warm I wouldn't, worry to much about it. If it ticks over unevenly when cold that would indicate that combustion is not good on one cylinder, that could also account for the smoke. Most likely problem is an injector but it could also be caused by low compression on that cylinder.

If you have to take it anywhere use a diesel specialist rather than a dealer, they usually know what they are doing.
