Hi Stickyfinger thanks for your reply, I had a look at the ebay link and they all seem to be for lhd vehicles, maybe because I am in France, will have to get a mate from uk to try from there.

The replacement headlight glasses are usually only for fitment to S1 Xantia, and are usually the early style with a really bad beam pattern.

On the ebay site on the left hand side, you should be able to select the location as UK & Ireland, which will mostly find you RHD parts.

https://www.ebay.ie/itm/BRAND-NEW-VALEO ... SwkVxa-bWC
is a bargain, unfortunately only for one side.

I checked the Valeo (and Behr-Hella) catalogues today - nothing there.
You should be ok with a scrap pair, if the reflectors are in good condition. If like XM, the coating is delicate, so don't polish!

LHD units still showing available new from Citroen (at some ghastly price, no doubt). RHD showing NFP.
Is the difference between LHD and RHD just in the front glass, perhaps?
If so, maybe some decent LHD units + RHD glass, as suggested above.
I think only XM had the internal plastic fresnels (which enable L-R swapping); by the time Xantia happened, I think they'd gone. Mike will know.

Why do you need RHD headlights? If you're taking the car back to the UK the LHD beam (as I understand) is fine because it goes straight a head, which is why you don't see beam deflectors on European cars in the UK.

Yes you do need* beam deflectors (or strategically position pieces of tape) for the UK, except for Yanks because they have vertical dipping. Asymmetric lenses were a European (probably Hella) development & l/h dipping ones were then designed primarily for the UK. The clue is the little arrow moulded into the bottom of the lens (in fact the only way to tell on such as Xantias, which don't have conventional pattern lenses.)
That said, one of my Xantia's headlights has a double headed arrow, which rather suggests there are LHD, RHD AND (for want of a better term) neutral lenses.
*"should have" - because visiting European drivers never seem to bother!

Good point. Some headlight units are flat-top/universal beam.
On the front glass you should find a horizontal arrow, which points in the direction of dip.
So UK headlights will have an arrow pointing to the LH (kerb) side of the car [→].
If the arrow has no head [—] the beam dips to the right (drive on the right).
If the arrow points both ways [↔] the beam is flat-top dip, suitable for both sides of the road.

If the arrow had no head (it's just a horizontal line) the beam is universal, i.e. not handed.

But if there is no arrow or horizontal line (which is normal for European LHD headlights) then the pattern is RD dip (EU LHD), that is to say that only LH dip (UK) and vertical dip (USA) headlamps normally have the symbol.

I am puzzled by the statement that the cheap Valeo unit is not suitable, as I don't think that there was more than one version of RHD headlight for the S2 Xantia, and the box in the advert is labelled for an S2 Xantia.

xantia v6 The headlight on ebay is from Ireland and the seller said check that it is for your vehicle which I did with Valeo and they said for RHD S2 xantia's the part numbers were, drivers side 086925, passenger side 086924, the one on ebay is 086927 for a 1997 car, mine is a 2000 model, BTW the passenger side one is twice the price of the drivers for some reason,

1997 was when production of the S2 Xantia started. This Valeo catalogue (UK edition for RHD cars) states that that part number is correct for an S2 Xantia.. http://www.mladov.ru/katalog/valeo/VALE ... a_2011.pdf
