Removing Mirror Covers - Xsara

Post by dave_xsara »

Quick question - can the mirror backcovers be removed by prising them apart from the unit or must I remove the mirror glass in order to release the tabs?
I'd rather not attempt one method as over the other as I could break the glass or tabs - so I can wait until someone outlines the process.

Thanks.

There's no guidance on the disassembly of these - only for replacing the glass. Tabs shown for you though - I suspect if you angle the mirror glassfully back into the housing at the bottom, you may be able to see the tabs.

Do as I did, drive too close to a wheely bin, they come off easily. :-D

Got it off.
The best way to do this is to sit in the house and don't bother.
Cracked the glass, so tried prising off from behind, broke two tabs. The correct way is to remove the glass and release the tabs.

Has anyone got a close up photo of the tabs so I can reattach them correctly?

EDIT: All back on. A simple task to respray the covers turned into a complete PITA. With the benefit of hindsight I should have instead masked them off whilst still attached on the car and sprayed them in situ. For anyone in future planning to take them off for any reason removing the glass to get at them increases the changes of breaking both the glass ( ) and the cover. Replacement covers are cheap on the internet (circa £5) so that is an option so I'd try to avoid tasking the glass off if possible.
