Folding mirrors...

Post by Lynyrd Skynner1 »

2007 C5...
Another little issue , door mirrors work fine fully adjustable but they don't fold when the button is pressed , could this be the switch or is there a more common problem..?

I have known for crud on the contacts in the driver door module stop certain actions from working. On my previous C5 the passenger front window would not auto close. My Lexia told me it was the driver door module. When I cleaned up the contacts it worked properly (and the Lexia confirmed it was now in working order). Trainman, when he had a C5, had a similar issue, I suggested he clean up the driver door module contacts, he did, and that sorted his problem out.

Post up your VIN - you may not have this option or it may be deactivated.

On the driver door electric window control panel, the switch for the mirrors slides left right or middle. If it is in the middle position and you have this option, it will slide DOWN to fold the mirrors. If it doesn't move down from the middle position, then you don't have this option.

Ok, so that was helpful, so you do have the foldback option.

So you have already confirmed that the foldback does not happen when operating the switch. Can you also confirm that it does not foldback when locking the car with the remote fob?

If it does not do this either, can you confirm that it has previously worked and is this therefore a sudden issue?

Hi Marc , Ok ... I have had the car less than a week so just finding these things out as I grow into its ownership :) .....the mirrors don't fold when locking with key fob , they never have in the week I have owned the car also the mirrors feel very easy to fold in by hand , no resistance at all , noticed this when cleaning yesterday , but when driving they stay put they don't move at all ....

Hmm...

Do you hear any whining or noise of the motors engaging when you try to fold the mirrors back using the switch of the fob? If not, then it must be the failure of an electrical signal getting through - this may be wither in the door control panel, the driver's door control module (inside the door) or a faulty trapped wire in the door to engine compartment loom. This is protected by a rubber tube you can see with the driver's door open. It should come away to expose the wires. If there is a break in one of them it may be the cause. It is unusual for both mirror motors to fail simultaneously.

I wonder whether a previous owner has needed to replace the mirrors and just stuffed the only pair he/she could get second hand.

I did think of the possibility of them being replaced at some time with non-folding versions - but then thought what is the likelihood of that happening to both..... :-D

Could someone have deactivated this option in Lexia or via system settings ?

There is only the option to stop them folding back using the fob, not the switch on the door, hence my question as to whether they were working with either method. So that rules that out as they should work regardless using the mirror control panel incorporating the window switches.

So if the switch moves and the car is configured to have that option then i can only assume that there is a wiring issue to the switch, no power no action ?

I would check the wiring as it enters the drivers door, yes i know it has power to adjust the mirrors but having spent days working out a central locking issue ( discussed elsewhere ) that it could just be a simple wire break
