X7 1.6HDI Service recommendations
I'm about ready to get my newly acquired X7 serviced including cambelt.
As often advised, it's prudent to replace water pump at the same time when doing the timing belt but can anyone suggest other items worth doing as well that shouldn't add too much to the overal cost but will save having to remove the same protection/access items all over again at a later time?
On my service list are;
Oil, oil filter, fuel filter (I believe air filter was recently replaced), cambelt tensioner & idler pulley, water pump, coolant, serpentine belt.
(I had already pre-purchased a FAI timing belt kit w/water pump (TBK190-6318) for my estate but as I'm planning to sell that car on, believe it will also fit the X7 as the part numbers are identical?)

Mike, the timing kit that includes the OEM Belt, Pulleys, Water Pump & Gasket from Citroen is below - and yes the main kit is the same part number for your C5 II. But on the parts list for the C5 II, they offer a cheaper version for cars older than 3 years, which I have also listed. BUT, they do not list this cheaper kit as an option against the X7 - make of that what you will.....
X7
1609525680 priced at £173.56 inc.VAT
C II
1609121080 Full Kit with water pump - cheaper non OEM parts £128.28 inc. VAT
X7
1609525680 priced at £173.56 inc.VAT
C II
1609121080 Full Kit with water pump - cheaper non OEM parts £128.28 inc. VAT

Re: X7 1.6HDI Service recommendations
Yes I saw those two options when researching OEM part numbers to check the FIA kit I have in stock will fit the X7. I think I paid half what Citroen are asking (which boasts as good as or better than OEM).
I also have the Total INEO oil and oil filter, plus coolant - again originally bought for the MKII. Just can't think what other jobs will be worth exploring while accessing the timing kit. Injectors don't appear to need resealing...

Re: X7 1.6HDI Service recommendations
Found a few more jobs that need doing, mostly missing or loose fasteners, new air pipe, maybe new PCV as well.
Booked a mobile mechanic to do the cambelt so it should (fingers crossed) be back on the road next month.

A bought cam and cranks seals and an aux belt kit at the same time as the cam belt kit, though mines done 170000m and showing signs of weeping.

Good point. I'll ask the mech to notify me if he spots any seal leakage.
If the aux belt I have in stock for the facelift fits this X7, he can throw that on too.

Re: X7 1.6HDI Service recommendations
Finally, the X7 is back on the road following a day of "assisting" a mobile mechanic in giving it a damn good servicing.
New cambelt, tensioner + idler, aux belt, water pump + coolant, oil + filter, fuel filter, air breather pipe and new undertray fasteners plus a couple of other minor niggles sorted.
A few issues were encountered along the way.
The only locking wheelnut socket I got has a missing pin but he carefully managed to make it work. (Think I'll replace them with standard bolts)
The Citroen Service procedure gives the torque setting for the cambelt tensioner as 2,5 daNM and idler as 3,7daNm but his bible (Autodata) states the tensioner should be 37Nm and omits the idler torque value. I was left to make the call and requested he use the Citroen specs though it's given me cause for concern to be honest.
The supplied aux belt was shorter but fitted all the same. I'll replace that tomorrow.
A couple of fault codes were inadvertantly triggered but the mech cleared them using his Solus, thankfully... because my diagbox refused to work, asking "Please connect VCI" and failing to read VIN. Previously it would jump straight to diagbox so no idea what's happend to it.

Check your system has not been deactivated Mike - it can happen on selecting some options. Copy your licence file back over. Or secondly, it should be using Diagbox for the X7, so what version are you on?

Thanks Colin, still hoping you'll come and drive it again and let me know if you notice any differences as it's all still new to me.
I've suffered de-activation before and got a different message so don't think it's that but have a license copy if needed. I want to see if it still works on the estate before making any changes.GiveMeABreak wrote: ↑01 Apr 2019, 18:43 Check your system has not been deactivated Mike - it can happen on selecting some options. Yes previously it would find the VIN and jump straight into diagbox but now it first asks to connect VCI (USB driver is present and green light is solid on VCI) then if I progress, asks for the VIN.
If I try auto detection it fails at finding the VIN again. V7.65

Re: X7 1.6HDI Service recommendations
I would drop down a few versions TBH - I wouldn't go above 7.62 - things start dropping out on later versions. This is what I use on my X7 and it still retains perfect compatibility with the 2007 C3 under Lexia.

Re: X7 1.6HDI Service recommendations
It's been solid for years Marc, I don't like to mess unless I'm certain it's not something silly I'm missing first in case I just make matter worse... and on that note, while testing a few ideas indoors (off the car) the large round connector (connecting VCI and OBD plug) seperated. Hopefully that was the fault!GiveMeABreak wrote: ↑01 Apr 2019, 19:20 I would drop down a few versions TBH - I wouldn't go above 7.62 - things start dropping out on later versions. Mike just enjoy it, if you have the "Devil Car " running right you will know, no need for me to tell you what you will find out in a few days of it being your daily driver.
Yes i still miss it, but you had the time and cash to get it sorted, i ran out of time but between the both of us and this great forum you have a cracking car that you need to just enjoy

Re: X7 1.6HDI Service recommendations
It's working again with the facelift, so I'm assuming it'll work again with the X7 as the mech's Solus was communicating with it just fine. Thanks Marc.

Still a few issues I'm not sure about but feeling happier now the crucial work's been sorted. It is a solid reliable car, that's for sure and I look forward to using it more. I reckon mum will be pleased as she struggles getting in and out of the low-slung estate, bless
