Lost my AX keys.

Post by Stickyfinger »

Ok people , have been really stupid and lost a full set (misplaced but just cannot find them)

So the question is, with a fully locked car, no keys, what is the plan now ?

PS,
No immobiliser fitted, no key code etc.

Bit longwinded, but you may find some useful suggestions in this thread when a similar thing happened to me.

Xantia-my solution is to smash a window

First and probably easiest useful suggestion was

You have a couple of options.
You could buy the mechanical key number from Citroen, any auto locksmith should be able to cut a key to code & shouldn't be too expensive as the keys are non transponder, this will only be an option if the car has the original locks fitted.
You can also order pre cut keys from the dealer as long as you are not in a rush, this can take up to a couple of weeks. Again would need to be original locks fitted. & probably not that cheap.
A good auto locksmith will also be able to strip the door lock & work out the key number from that once you have gained entry.
Gaining access to the car without any damage will be child's play on this car as deadlocking was never fitted to the AX, just use a wedge in the top of the door then use something to grab & lift the door button, cable tie, packing tape, fishing line down a piece of brake pipe to make a lasso etc.
Once in you could replace the complete lock set, you will need to drill the ignition barrel to remove it without the key.

It was a few years ago now (about 17) and I ordered a key from Citroen for my BX....£3.50. I have found that things you think will be cheap are extortionate and other things a pleasant surprise. For example, car broken into via the rear door quarter light and they nicked my rear parcel shelf speakers (with parcel shelf). Cost - quarter light glass £9, parcel shelf £150! Guess what it went without?

Notice the BX is still top the list but sadly gone

If you haven't got "recovery" AND you're not going to call on a locksmith, you should be able to open a door with a wire coathanger (you DID keep one for just this eventuality - didn't you?). Then remove lock, dismantle - & read code off the barrel (or did that only apply to British cars?)
