gear linkage

HELP Have :( problem with gears gears stiff when changing then got stuck in reverse had to call recovery ok said it was gear linkage nightmare to get to so one of the gear linkage cables won't move up and down sleeve it's the one on the right on gear shift in car so could that be problem and how do I remove cables pics please if any

I’ll have to assume you are talking about the Picasso in you profile panel. Post or PM your VIN if you want instructions.

Vin no VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]***********. HAYNES MANUAL NOT SHOWING HOW TO REMOVE THE
CABLE NOT GOOD INSTRUCTIONS

I think you misread one character in the VIN - I've PM'd you, but I think I have what is should be:

XSARA PICASSO FAMILY SALOON 1.6 HDi 92 (DV6ATED4) Manual gearbox 5 with a build date (RPO 10825 which you can check on the tyre inflation pressures sticker). Give me a minute and I'll take a look at the procedure for you.

Here is the adjustment procedure first of all - in case you can adjust the cable. I will follow up with the replacement after.

Positioning tool for the gear lever 9607-T
Note the cables must be adjusted each tome the following are removed:
Gearbox, Power Unit or Gear Selectors.

Adjustment (Inside the Vehicle)Under The Bonnet

  • Remove the trim from under the gear selection lever.
  • Immobilise the gear lever in the neutral position using tool (1).

  • Remove the air filter assembly.
  • Place the gear selectors and the gear lever in neutral.
  • Unlock the ball-joint keys at " a".
  • Lock the cable lengths with the ball-joint locking keys.
Check
  • Remove the tool [1].
  • Check that you can shift through all the gears without running into any tight spots.
  • Check that the movement of the gear lever is the same from front to back and from right to left; otherwise repeat the adjustment.
  • Refit the interior trim under the gear lever.
  • Refit the air filter assembly.

  • Do not use a tool to unclip the ball-joints.
  • To unlock the ball-joint, press at the centre " a" then pull the ball-joint upwards.
  • The ball-joints alone can be replaced provided that the locking key is removed.
  • Using two thin screwdrivers, unclip at " b".

Here's the removal / refitting guide. Raise and support the vehicle on a 2 post lift.
Inside the Vehicle

Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
Remove (on each side):

  • The screws (2), (3), (5) and (6)
  • The plastic peg (1) using the tool [2]

Unplug:
  • The cigar lighter
  • The ash try lighting
Remove the air conditioning cover (4).
Unclip the control cables (7) from the gear lever at "a".

Remove the ventilation duct (8).
Unclip the sleeves of the control cables (7) from the control support at "b" Using circlip pliers.

N.B. : When removing, attach the control cables together so as to make it easier to pass them through the bulkhead when refitting.
Under the vehicle
Remove:
  • The torque reaction rod mounting (sub-frame side)
  • The catalytic converter
  • The exhaust heat shield
Remove the nuts (9).

CAUTION : Do not use a tool to unclip the ball-joints.
Unlock the ball-joints (10) by pressing in the centre "c" and pulling them upwards.
Unclip the sleeves of the control cables (7) on the gearbox Using circlip pliers.
Remove the control cables (7).
Refitting

N.B. : Coat the bulkhead filter foam with a soapy water type lubricant to make it easier to refit the control cables.
  • Pass the control cables together (7) through the bulkhead.
    Fit the nuts (9).


    CAUTION: Cables must be adjusted each time the following are removed: gearbox, power unit, gear selectors.

N.B. : Unlock the ball-joint keys at "d", before clipping the ball-joints onto the gear selection levers.Conditions required before adjusting:
  • Immobilise the gear lever in the neutral position Using tool [1]
    Put the gearbox in neutral
Refasten:
  • The sleeves of the control cables (7) on the support on the gearbox side
  • The ball-joints of the control cables (7) on the gear selection levers
  • The sleeves of the control cables (7) on the gear lever support (at "b")
  • The control cables (7) on the gear lever (at "a")
Lock the cable lengths with the ball-joint locking keys.
N.B. : Check that you can shift through all the gears without running into any tight spots. Check that the movement of the gear lever is the same from front to back and from right to left; otherwise repeat the adjustment.

Refit:
  • The exhaust heat shield
  • The catalytic converter
  • The torque reaction rod mounting (sub-frame side)
  • The ventilation duct (8)
  • The air conditioning cover (4)

Guess what ... happend to me this morning hard to get in 1st 2nd what a fight, limped home and had to use 206,, is the procedure the same as above for me

Heres how i lined up my gears without the tool
GET THE CABLES ALL CONNECTED BOTH ENDS GET 4TH GEAR THE BEST YOU CAN LOCK OFF WITH THE YELLOW PUSH PLUG THE RIGHT HAND BALL JOINT LEAVE THE LEFT ONE ALMOST OUT THEN WITH A LONG BAR OR SCREWDRIVER PUSH THE ARM BACK AS FAR AS IT GOES I HEARD A CLICK I THEN PUSHED IN THE YELLOW LOCKING PLUG ..... I HAD ALL THE FULL GEARS !
