Welcome to the forum.

From the photos, it looks like the engine has been transplanted into a Peugeot of some description? Tell us a bit more about your project.

The ES9J4 engine ECU (as fitted to the XM and Xantia) will not work without a keypad immobiliser to unlock it, but it does not need to communicate with other ECUs on the car.

If you know the keypad code from the car it came from, then the easiest thing would be to get a keypad and connect it up.

If you don't know the ECU keypad code, then adding a keypad won't help you much.

You're assuming that the ECU is from a Series 1 Xantia/XM ?

A Series 2 Xantia V6 doesn't have a keypad immobiliser, the immobiliser function is provided by the CPH which controls the central locking and reads the chip on the key. So the "code" is not known by the owner and I'm not even sure if S1 and S2 ES9J4 ECU's are interchangeable from an immobilisation point of view.

Also, even if it was a S1 ECU, there is a possibility that if the person who removed it was smart, they disconnected the immobiliser keypad after the ECU was unlocked with the code, in which case as long as the keypad was never connected again the engine would start without a code.

In this situation connecting any immobiliser keypad would actually cause the ECU to be locked again! So I would be inclined to try it without connecting an immobiliser keypad first just in case the ECU is already unlocked. If not sending it to a specialist unlocker is probably the best option, or obtaining an already unlocked ECU from somewhere.

I wonder if our Iranian friend is asking how he can modify the ECU to by-pass the immobiliser, I see his profile says he's an electronics engineer..
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

Another option (but I don't know anyone who has tried it) is this box: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Car-Key ... 37005.html Which claims to read, write or disable the code.

Note that the listing says that you also need to buy an EEROM programmer.

A slightly better description of the same thing: http://codecard.eu/immo/peugeot/peugeot ... od_25.html

Here is user manual for the same device: http://goldenwaychina.com/wp-content/up ... manual.pdf

I think unfortunately it is going to cost you - either to buy the equipment above and do it yourself, or to pay somebody to do it - I can't see another solution. If it was that easy to remove, there wouldn't be any purpose in having an immobiliser system in the first place. Good luck in your research.

Finding an unlocked one would be better, because in the case of an engine transplant into another car like this none of the wiring is in place that would normally go to the keypad unit, so it would require extra work to wire up a keypad which he probably doesn't want to have to use anyway.

On these ECU's they can be semi-permanently unlocked by simply unlocking it with the code with a keypad, then unplugging the keypad before the ignition power is turned off to the ECU, and then never plugging the keypad in again! As long as a keypad is never plugged in again the ECU will remain unlocked across power cycles, although it will still remember it's original code should a keypad ever be connected again.

I keep meaning to disconnect the keypad in my Xantia V6 - I find it a right PITA entering the code and nobody is going to steal one now that it's 21 years old!
