Hi
Does anyone know where i can buy new parkingbrake cables (Electronic parkingbrake) for a Citroën C5 2010.

Welcome!

Officially the only way to get the cables is to buy a complete motor unit, which costs 970 GBP in the UK

This has not been explored yet, but I can see this starting to be a problem here in the UK with rusting cables. It might be possible to strip the unit, and then get a specialist to make up some suitable cables. Or it might all be encased in plastic and a no-go!!

That's a bit scary

is there any rustproofing you can do to the cable to stop this from happening?

The cables are for the most part encased in sleeves, and the unit itself has a finite number of activations, after which it will need replacing anyway, so I wouldn’t bother trying to take it to bits and transplant bits; probably better to source a second hand unit if it does go, as that’s the only way you are going to get the cable anyway.

Here's the inside of the unit for those interested:

(1) Automatic electronic parking brake.
"a" The reduction motor
"b" engine
"c" Rotation sensors
"d" Connector
"e" Electric parking brake rear right secondary cable
"f" Manual release cable
"g" Release mechanism (Manual)
"h" Splined shaft
"j" Threaded pin
"k" Integrated force sensor
"l" Electric parking brake rear left secondary cable

Not shown is the separate control and cable for the manual release mechanism.


Tightening Action	Slackening Action
EPB ECU controls motor "b" in application direction "A"	EPB ECU controls motor "b" in release direction "B"
Force provided by motor "b" is reduced & sent by reduction motor "a" to splined shaft "h"	Force provided by motor "b" is reduced & sent by reduction motor "a" to splined shaft "h"
Splined shaft "h" & threaded pin "j" are linked by interior thread of splined shaft "h", the rear left	Splined shaft "h" & threaded pin "j" are linked by interior thread of splined shaft "h", the rear left
Secondary cable "l" is linked to threaded pin "j", the rear right secondary cable "e" is linked to splined shaft "h"	Secondary cable "l" is linked to threaded pin "j", the rear right secondary cable "e" is linked to splined shaft "h"
The rotation of splined shaft "h" in application direction inserts threaded pin "j" in splined shaft "h", which draws in right & left secondary cables	The rotation of splined shaft "h" in release direction extracts the threaded pin "j" from splined shaft "h", which distances right & left secondary cables at "B"
The drawing in of right & left secondary cables applies rear brake calipers	The distancing of right & left secondary cables at "B" releases rear brake calipers

Yes, looks to me like it would be amenable to being opened up and getting SpeedyCables to make up some new ones. Nothing lost if one or more cables is shot anyway!!

Yes, that's about it Kenny

- only the Hydractive Suspension Models had an EPB, but the central console is different to accommodate models with a manual brake - so all the hassle of changing the trim and reprogramming the BSI / ESP System etc.

The EPB's master control is the ESP ECU, with the EPB ECU being the slave - but control can be passed from one to the other in certain conditions. So a lot more involved that just mechanics.
