Recommendations - 1.6 HDI VTX Xsara - 80k
Hi,
New member here - first post.
As above - old engine 80k miles - a 1.6 HDI VTX Picasso Xsara.
Looking for recommendations for a mechanic / garage in and about London U.k - that is well regarded and very knowledgeable in this product class.
Car is emitting white smoke and a foul smell - no mayonnaise under the oil cap - so need help.
Thanks to any that can help.
Andle.

Here is a page in the Wiki all about oils for Citroens.
https://frenchcarforum.co.uk/wiki/Citro ... arbox_Oils
If you scroll down to section 7.8 is says what grade of oil is acceptable for your 1.6 HDi.
As to type I believe that Total oils are preferred.
Personally I used this as it is the specified oil for my 2.0 HDi
Total Quartz Ineo ECS 5W30

And if you buy the oil from NielsenCDG, then why not make use of the 5% discount that Marc (GiveMeABreak) got for FCF members

Can I please ask both of you to take a look at this thread - and to tell me what you think?

Appreciate any advice you'd be willing to share.

Did you edit this post or have I replied to the wrong one about engine oils?

There appears to be a similar thread here viewtopic.php?p=550386

I see, well I appear to have replied to the wrong one, not to worry Marc has directed them to the Wiki.

Hi - looks like you responded to this thread - thinking it was the other one.
In this one I'm asking for recommendations for a mechanic / garage within london.
I would still really appreciate any input you could provide on the other thread.
The wiki is rather dense - and even though I'm quite a bookworm - I could use some extra help..

That's ok. The oil I linked earlier in this thread is perfect for your engine. (Total Quartz Ineo ECS 5W30)
Sorry I can't recommend any mechanics in London, If you're only after a service maybe try the Citroen main dealer nearest you?

What would be the right procedure to check. Do you mean in ml or is it something I can check visually someway?

Can you clarify whether it is smoking all the time or just sometimes?

If it is using coolant you can check to see if the level is low.....ONLY check when the car is cold....
err, you do know where the coolant filler cap is don't you ?

Was there petrol put into it by mistake? White smoke is usually unburnt fuel
