xantia rear anit-sink sphere replacement?

Post by pseud »

Good Folk,

I'm in the process of sphere replacement and have got my knickers in a knot over the rear 'anti-sink' sphere.

The hydrolic pipe goes in the back and gets disconnected as per standard hydrolic pipe into component; and, gets connected as per standard hydrolic pipe in to component - not, as per standard sphere onto standard sphere receptor... right?

I've removed the sphere: I had to give it a good tug to get it off the pipe with the rupper sealing sleave remaining in the old sphere.

Now, the new sphere supplied by IFHS has been supplied with rubber sealing ring suitable for sealing onto a standard sphere receptor (a la the strut tops or rear wheel cylinders) so useless for the anti-sphinx - but, nice to have a spare...

I should have been supplied with a sealing sleave to replace the one left behind, shouldn't I?
Or, did I, in tugging on the old cylinder to release the pipe, pull the sealing sleave back in the threaded hole and there's actually a rubber sealing sleave in the threaded hole of the new cylinder, but too far down for me to see?
Or, I should fish out the rubber sealing sleave in the thread of the old cylinder and reuse in the new one?

Slowly doing my head in - someone please point me in the right direction.

Many thanks in advance,
Morgan.

It seems that anti-sink spheres are not usually supplied with the correct rubber seal. I have however never had a problem when re-using the old seal. The seals are I think still available from Citroen and specialist suppliers for a few pence each.

Thanks - that's a good point. I'll try the old one.
Cheers

IIRC the pipe seal is a 4.5mm one. I would also use the normal seal, to prevent the sphere from rusting onto the bracket. An old ring seal will do the job, as it is not really sealing the sphere, just preventing metal to metal contact.
