Just found this
https://www.ebay.fr/itm/20-5x4-Liter-PE ... 0012.m1985
at 2,57€ a litre!! On the link I posted they have replaced the Mannol oil with this. On your link I notice they also sell a slightly more expensive oil (also Mannol) but states the Toyota norme T-IV? I thought that they were the same? I also checked on a Volvo forum who say the Mannol 3309 oil is fine.

Hello helpful members,
I'm about to change the oil of the automatic transmission on a C5 3.0 V6 240 HDi, with transmission AISIN BVA AM6C.
I read tons and tons of stuff about the procedure all over the web, I feel confident enough but this post: viewtopic.php?p=543115#p543115 got me confused!!

Where did @EDC5 encounter the filling problem (by which he filled 2 litres and the last one couldn't be filled)?
When I fill the new oil does the engine need to be on or off?
can someone please explain the filling step and how to make sure the level is correct (the last 500ml + 500ml fillings)?

Thanks

The oil has to be drained when it is hot or you risk a lot of the impurities not being drained. The official guidance is in my post here (illustrated), so read the procedure then you can use the pictures in EDC5's guide to help you.

Hi Tredy, welcome to the forum. The filling problem Elis had was because he didn't fit the level plug and the engine wasn't running when he poured the oil in.
Once drained, (about 3 litres) fit both plugs. New O ring on the drain if your only doing 1 change, don't bother on the level plug. After you've fitted the plugs (engine still off) replace 3.5 litres of oil. Refit filler plug, start engine, cycle through all gear selectors several times and wait 'til diagbox tells you the temp is between 58 and 68 deg C. Remove level plug, with the engine still running, change the O ring quickly. The oil should have a constant flow because you have slightly overfilled it. Wait until it drips then refit the level plug.

I used genuine Aisin fluid in my AM6 gearbox on my C8 2.2 173hp.

It was significantly better than the Esso/Mobil fluid that the automatic transmission specialists had used.

I got it here for around £35 for 5 litres

Use the right oil for the Euro specification for your vehicle. The gearboxes are slightly different depending on year and Euro rating.

Yep you are, of course, quite correct.

My selection came about after considerable research and quite a lot of communication with Aisin themselves.

The auto box specialists (who generally seem to have quite a good reputation) said we’ve used the same oil in these boxes for years.

They needed quite a bit of persuasion that, perhaps, Aisin themselves might know best !

There's no mention of any PSA vehicles or specifications in the tech document accompanying the oil. I would be very wary of it. How did you come to use this spec oil? Did someone recommend it to you?

EDIT, cross posted.

According to the spec sheet, Aisin ATF Premium ATF6 meets specs:
JWS 3309
JWS 3317
AW-1

The auto specialists used Mobil/Esso LT 71141 and said they had used this in similar Aisin gearboxes for years without problems. However, after they had installed this in my car I began to notice a slight juddering, most noticeable when accelerating uphill around 30mph in 3rd gear. Occasionally it was quite extreme and made the front end of the car shudder.

I changed engine mounts and bottom arms with ball joints to no avail before wondering whether it could be gearbox related.

As I’ve seen mentioned elsewhere on here, quite a bit about the AM6 seems to be a bit mysterious but after a lot of investigation Aisin (in Belgium if I remember correctly) stated that the LT 71141 was not compatible with my gearbox

They suggested using their ATF6 (note, NOT ATF6+) which, after much cajoling, I persuaded the auto box specialists to install in my car.

Result ? The vibration and shuddering disappeared.

As an interesting follow on to this, I was looking on the Total website recently and in their description of their Fluide XLD FE, they state “Can be used in Asian step-automatic transmissions requiring strong anti-shudder durability”

Assuming they mean Aisan (although I suppose it IS Asian !!) it’s interesting to see even Total referring to “anti-shudder” and I guess shudder is a better description of what my car used to suffer from.

The only fluid to use is AWS3309 spec - using LT71141 will kill the box. That is used for HP20 gearbox not TF80SC (AM6)

Hi Simon
I agree with you about the AWS3309.
I’m still unhappy about the auto box specialists using LT71141 - can you give me any evidence that it will kill the box ?
Cheers
