May be some additional info might help. I've checked the voltages on the terminals of these two sockets and here are the results. the voltages were measured with the ignition off. sorry for the poor quality - I've made it with the "paint", which I'm not very familiar with. please be advised that the cable leading to the white connector (conn2) is a shielded cable.

Hi
My search for the mysterious connector for the tow bar electric, yield another connector, well hidden of the lefthand side of the luggage compartment. I really hope that it's indeed the right one. attached a picture of it.
Thanx.

To try and identify it, I need to know how many pins are in the socket (used or not) and how many wires go into it and what colour are the wires.

However that is the right sort of connector that goes into a PSA BSI or other fuse box like the trailer unit, so you may well have found the connection, but I can't be sure.

Hi Marc
the socket has 18 point - 2 rows of 9, as you will be able to see in the pics and there are 8 wires goes to it. the colors are as follows: brown, blue, red, pink, purple, yellow, green and white or light beige. I hope it helps. is there a way to know purpose of each wire?

I don't have any of the paperwork with me but that does look like the plug that fits in the socket that's underneath the LH blue fuse.

Could you please tell me what is the "LH blue fuse"? and one more thing, how can I find out the function of each wire? is there a schematic diagram of it?
Thanx.

If you are referring to the fuses in the picture I posted, that is just an example trailer fuse box and may not be the particular one I referred to in earlier part numbers for your vehicle.

They will no doubt be fuses for the additional lighting on a trailer or caravan or for other electrical equipment. You would, I suspect, normally get a description with the kit.

I may not have a wiring schematic for the plug, but I will have a look.

That's the microswitch that registers if a plug has been inserted, or not, and informs the BSI so that the braking profile can be altered.

Thanx for your replies. now that one issue is solved (at least I hope so) remains the issue of supplying the +12V. to my understanding, the best solution is to take it from the rear cigarette lighter socket, since it's protected by a 15A fuse and it's switched by the ignition. my question is, how do I gain access to the lighter socket? what and how do I have to dismantle?
Thanx.

What do you need a separate supply for? Everything for the trailer electrics is contained in that plug.

It's well over a year since I installed the towbar on my car so I can't be absolutely sure there's no second plug there but the point is, you don't need to make an extra connection up to the front of the car.

As Paul says ^ everything is there - but the plug in your photo is designed to fit into a the correct Citroen 'BSR' trailer unit. Then the electrical harnesses all plug back into the relay unit with some other connections to be made. It's one advantage of having a proper kit - it is adequately designed for towing, is suitably fused, and interfaces with the vehicles BSI and Engine Fusebox, as well as the ESP / ASP system to provide adaptive braking and stability programmes to account for towing Avi.

An aftermarket third party kit can be used of course, but they will have their own fitting instructions no doubt, but probably will not have the same functionality and we can't really advise much on those as we may not be aware of the specific kit you have.

Thanx again Marc and Paul. please let me explain. I don't believe that I'll be able to get an original BSR as suggested by Marc. I have no doubt that it would have been the best option but I don't see how I can find one, so, the other option is a third party "smart" relay system or how they call it and this option needs a supply of +12V (like I have mentioned earlier) and since the thin wires of the 8 wire loom appears to me too thin to carry the load of the trailer lamps (for example - the brake light is a 21W and there are two of them plus the two 5W bulbs of the rear lights and in the event that they all lit simultaneously, that makes a 52W load which means current of almost 4.5A, which I hardly believe that this wires can hold, and Paul, if I'm not wrong, it seems that on the BSR's picture posted by Marc, there is a separate connector for the +12V supply.
Looking forward for your comments.

Have you actually asked your Citroen dealer if they can supply the BSR trailer unit? At a pinch I would think that a Peugeot dealer could obtain it if you supply the correct part number (I think it may be the same as the Peugeot 407 as the towbar itself fits the X7 and 407).
