Post by bill hughes »

Hi all I am considering a Renault Megane 1.5dci to replace my 1998 1.4 Megane which has been a very reliable car for 8 years, I dont know much about the 1.5 diesel engine and was wondering if anyone on the forum could give me any advice, I'm looking at a 2011/12/13 car many thanks any advice appreciated.

IIRC they have a dismal reputation, like the PSA 1.6 HDi if not looked after diligently and serviced far more frequently that advised by Renault.
That said my eldest son and his girlfriend dumped their Golf GTi for one and heaped praise on it, found it to be infinitely better than the Golf.
Youngest daughter has a 1.6 16Valve petrol tin roof cabriolet and loves it. Replaced her written off Fiesta and she says it is "A proper grown-up car" :)

Hi Steve ? thanks for your reply, having since researched the 1.5 dci engine it appears that it has had a lot of issues so I think I will stick to the petrol engines but upgrade from 1.4 1.6 as the only negative about my megane is that it is a bit underpowered thanks for your input Bill.
