Re: new owner
I was in Omaha once & I think it's safe to say there aren't too many Renaults there (or anywhere else in the US, for that matter, from what I've seen)
Ignore the views of your fellow countrymen, who all seem to have a down on French cars, there's no reason why it shouldn't be exactly what you want it to be - & the guys on the Renault forum will weigh in with the specialist tecnical stuff - once we've worked out exactly what you have, because I think it's a US market special (possibly a Renault/AMC collaboration job). That might make parts tricky OR you may find you have to go no further than your local NAPA, Pepboys, AZ or O'Reilly's, at least for tune-up (that's "service" to us) parts or you'll be at the mercy of a major on-line parts supplier I'd rather not mention.

Re: new owner
I believe it's a Renault 21 with the 2.2 petrol motor from the 25. Shouldn't be too hard to find parts for.

Looks like you are correct with the 21/25 mash-up.^
A less than stellar review.
Don't abandon all hope though Mr Whalers, there will be those who will try to help.

Re: new owner
I would be a bit careful with that car. I don't know how many they sold (a few hundred?), but there can't be many left now, and I suspect that a lot of the exterior and interior parts are unique and different to any Renault sold in Europe, so if it gets damaged, it may be impossible to repair to original condition.
The model has a place in the history of the French and US motor industry, and could easily be a museum piece one day (I think that I have seen a later version in a museum).

Re: new owner
You may be right, but let's not put the guy off using it - otherwise it might just as wellas be in a museum!
I can't even imagine the journey from Omaha - NYC, but given a decent tune0up/service I can't see a problem - but AAA subscription might be sensible insurance.
Now Americans are obsessed with fluid & belt/hose/seal changes - which I always think excessive (bordering on paranoia) but fresh oil & filters as a start but everything else subject to service intervals & physical examination.
Difficult for us to advise on oil, as what's available Stateside is different &, without looking at the small print on the container, the only commonality seems to be the viscosity. Best stick to what Renault recommend - or the nearest equivalent, bearing in mind oils are not always backwards compatible.
