Unusual to see an obvious Series 2 with no wing mirrors - but a very strange (and vulnerable) radio aerial, which should be roof-mounted. The extra foglights should be under the bumper, just outside the overriders.

This car was built as a left‑hand drive export model at the West Bromwich factory in November 1972, exported to France and sold in Paris in March 1973. The first owner was Monsieur Poyeau, an inspector with the Paris police who used this vehicle for official purposes. It is fitted with air horns under the bonnet, although these have been disconnected. It is understood that Monsieur Poyeau preferred the Rover P6 to the Citroen DS19 which was popular at the time. The car was used for trips to the holiday home in Spain and country cottage in Les Mourandieres, Saint Aubin where it was regularly serviced at a Citroen agency. When the car was approximately ten years old, it was placed in the garage at the country cottage and remained in storage for around fourteen years.

In 2002 the car was purchased by an English couple who also owned a property in Les Mourandieres and were the neighbours of Monsieur Poyeau. The car was immediately recommissioned and remained in France as their holiday transport. In 2013 the couple brought the car to the UK and retained it until recently. It comes with a history file containing the original passport stamped until 1976, a large quantity of invoices, French registration certificate, various correspondence, photos, MoT history dating from 2013 to 2018, spare keys and workshop manuals. Odometer recorded at 151,473 kilometers (approximately 94,121 miles).

What a lovely piece of history. And once owned by Clouseau!!
Not sure what's under the bonnet: at 1973, it could be 2000SC or TC, but it isn't V8.
Lovely - except those (presumably Cibié) foglights...

Its the 2000TC......the first bit of the blurb refers to a West Bromwich factory.....put West Bromwich Factory Rover into google and it doesnt come up with anything.

I've tangentally read stuff about Castle Bromwich Aerodrome (which is more Solihull not W Brom), the story of Spitfires and Lancasters, and JLR factory, but was there a factory at West Bromwich making Rover P6's, or making special versions for export?

Rover suppliers (and some of their sites) were dotted all around the west Midlands.
P6's were assembled only at Solihull - the 'new' North Building, created especially for it.
The Pathé film "Assignment P6" shows a lot of it.

Both my P6B's had a driver's door mirror, as this does - but the aerial IS strange.

Foglights were optional extras - & you can understand why a Frenchman would pay good francs for more Lucas lights. Period rectangular Cibiés would've fitted in the corresponding position (with suitable brackets) but, of course, aftermarket lights can be fitted wherever one wants & this was easier - AND, somehow, more French.

b-t-w, isn't that No: plate font odd, pre '63?

f-w-i-w, French export P6's had Rostyles (in fact Wolseley 18/85 wheels I'd imagine) but you can't see them - & it's not mentioned.

Jensen was in West Bromwich and did a lot of work for the other Midlands motor companies, may that's the link.

This is in the awful category for me, very nearly a room 101 category. This is it in its benign though hideously ugly state.

It becomes offensive when its following you for 6 miles on a country road at night with no safe passing places.

Unfortunately I hadn't taken a welding helmet with me in the car to reduce the glare from the lights behind of a vehicle of that ilk.

One of the reasons I gave up driving... Terrified and unnerved by those bloody things driven by arrogant morons filling my rear-view mirror...

Even worse when you looked behind and all you could see was four sliver rings filling your rear screen :evil:

Blinded!

While out the other night in the XM, we drove down a steep and narrow local rural shortcut, only to meet a new small car coming up the 1-in-8. Said little'un was awash with blinding light: headlights, foglights and what looked like DRLs. Had no choice but to stop dead, and prepare to back up.

Trouble was, the blaze of light at the front was just too much to see anything in reverse or use the mirrors! Flashed my own lights, and actually turned them out a few times, hoping he/she would get the message. Nope, de nada.

So, got out and walked forward to ask if their lights could be switched off while I backed up (the steep hill) 15m to a passing place.

No, was the answer from the woman in the passenger seat, the car's lights are fully automatic, and there's nothing we can do about it. I just shrugged and stood there. After 30 secs the guy driving looked embarrassed, twiddled and stabbed at a few things on the dash, but eventually just turned off the ignition and removed the key. Result.

Backed up, pulled over, and let them on their way, fully ablaze with icy blue. Tw*ts.
