May I suggest that (if he passed his test within the last year) he seriously consider taking the 'Pass Plus' driving scheme (this can only be taken within a year of pass ing the driving test). When I did it (over fifteen years ago) it cost me £20 per module (there are six modules), but when I received my certificate my insurers at the time treated it as a 1 year NCB, reducing the premiums by 10%. After three years the course had paid for itself, and after that I was, in effect, in profit.

The six modules are as follows (unless they have changed since I took the course);

Driving around town,
Driving in the countryside,
Driving after dark,
Driving in poor weather conditions,
Driving on a multi carriageway that does not have an 'M' suffix or prefix,
Driving on an 'M' road.
