Jim, my point exactly - it just seemed the strangest turn of phrase in the context.

Is it just me that space travel leaves cold? As a boy brought up on space age comics set in the then not too distant future but we'd already colonised Mars & beyond & everyone had personal jetpacks, reality just seems so slow & disappointingly behind the times. I thought powered flight was a remarkable achievement but not anything since because that's just further & faster which, in the scheme of things, is just inevitable progress.
