Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
I remember my father owning a red ford Zephyr (or Zodiac) - can't remember now, when we lived in Singapore - but I do recall the distinctive red leather bench seats and that it was huge inside!

Those oldies with the leather seats always had a great smell inside!

My 1960 Rover P5 had a leather front bench seat. Glorious memories of changing gear in the mini-skirted days of the 'Sixties, three-up on the front seat.

Always nice to put some visuals up as an aide-memoire

Don’t tell me, instead of reclining seats, you get a fold out bed in that thing.

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
I thought only the Hooper Zodies had leather, mine certainly didn't, nor did its stablemate Zephyr 6 (but then I would't expect it to). Curiously my father's 100E Prefect had leather - but it was a de luxe - but then so did Mk II, & I think MkI, Zodies.

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
Most of my cars until well into the '60s had column change and a bench seat, much better, genuine 6 seaters.

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
I agree, mostly , some of the set ups were not very good, Triumph and Standard column changes were always a pain and were the devil's own job to adjust and get to work correctly and the Austin stuff could be difficult at times, Rootes were by far the easiest to set up and to use.

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
Well very few here will remember the "Queens Cinema" in Newcastle, or indeed its showing of "Where Eagles Dare" when it first came out. A totally brilliant film for a group of excited 10/11 year olds.
Its on again today ITV4, good as it ever was, love the score/the scenery too!
Regards Neil

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
You will probably have to be of a certain vintage or a Land Rover enthusiast to remember these
Yes its a floor mounted dip switch. One of ours had one...probably the 1955 Morris Cowley, may have been the 1962 Vauxhall Victor, or the 1958 Ford Anglia. By the time we got to the 1966 Austin 1800 we must have moved into the modern world! Not sure if you can do a decent flashing of lights with the floor mounted switch though.

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
Rover P5 had one in 1960: a rubber-covered organ pedal to the left of the clutch.
Think Moggie 1000 did too, as well as early Mini (1959-).
Not a bad arrangement, as it left hands free on open roads at night, when left foot didn't have much to do.
Quite glad there isn't one on XM: five pedals would be going it a bit!

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
That was the norm on most cars up to the sixties when it moved onto the column stalks.
Got caught out once with a pre war Dodge which had a similar switch on the floor that turned out to be the starter switch.
